Task 1

Topic 1

Date: 18.3.2022

The survey indicates that my learning style/s is/are:

The survey indicates that my learning styles are reading and writing. I chose them because I prefer
to take notes and I like to do my assignments through worksheets, presentations and texts. Moreover,
I am also a social learner because I love doing quizzes and group activities. Also, I personally
think group activities can enhance communication skills and can even lead to understand new ideas.

Which learning tools and teaching methods do you enjoy the most? Give reasons for your
answer.
According to my preference, I like active learning method. Through active learning, I believe
students can be engaged well in class and will eventually be comfortable. Although a ctive
learning is in variety of forms, since its core purpose to make sure the students are
involved in class actively, I enjoy it the most. For learning tools, I favor ipad and laptop.
This is because I can take notes thoroughly through the ipad and Iaptops are very
convenient to write assignments and to research.

Which learning methods do you least like, and why?

I think each teaching methods can be benefit in their own ways. But if I were to mention my
least favorite teaching method, I would say “teacher-centered” approach. This is because
through this style, student learning is only measured through scored tests without any
group engagements.

Now use the grid and tables below to:

1) Evaluate your skills and abilities

you have already acquired and the level to which they are developed. These may have
been developed at school, in other former study or in previous employment.

Using the grid below, assess your level of competence in each area.

Competency/
Skill Low High

Note taking 1 2 3 4 5

Writing 1 2 3 4 5

(2) Give examples
It is important that you base your evaluation on examples. For example, if you believe you
are excellent at reading, what kind of reading material are you basing this on, why is this
so and how would you demonstrate this ability?

Skill/competency How have you acquired/demonstrated this?

Reading I have enhanced this skill by reading a lot of texts from textbooks.
By having to read during my research for assignments, I assume my
reading skills have improved a little.

Numeracy Honestly, I love using numeracy. I still am learning numeracy until

now and I think I am good at it because I’ve been using it since high
school.
Time management I usually draw timetables to access my time management. I
systematically mark the dates, the deadlines and make a to-do list. I
think that’s why I have improved my time management skills.

(3) Plan
A key to successful learning is the ability to identify your own individual learning needs.
For example, if your ability to be a successful learner is compromised because your
organisational skills are poor, what strategies will you put in place to address this? Your
ability to evaluate your own study skills and devise plans to improve areas of weakness
should continually grow as you progress into further education and study.

Going back to your self-evaluation, consider the competencies/skills which you have
identified as being at a lower level and plan how you could improve in those areas. Set out
your objectives in the table below. You need not be constrained by the areas in the grid at
Stage 1. You may have identified other skills that you would like to develop and you can
identify a plan for achieving these.

Skill/competency Action plan to develop

Listening I am trying to do more listening exercises. Also, I believe watching a
lot of movies and tv shows with English subtitles can help me improve
my listening skills too. Moreover, I am currently trying to boost my
listening skills by listening to audio books and songs.
Writing For writing skills, the only way to improve my writing skills to write
various topics as many as I could. Besides, in order to improve my
writing skills, I believe I should read more books and articles.
Through reading, I could learn more vocabulary and sentence
structure.
IT skills I consider watching more tutorial videos on youtube to upgrade my IT
skills. Plus, I would ask my friends who can apply their IT skills well
to help me out.
