R 1

The document provides sample data from 8 regions including advertising expenditure, number of sales persons, and sale of a product in lakhs of rupees. It asks to fit a least square regression plane to model the relationship between the variables, calculate the partial correlation coefficient, and calculate the multiple correlation coefficient.

Multiple regression

Q.1 The sale of a product in lakhs of rupees(X3) is

expected to be influenced by two variables namely the
advertising expenditure X1( in ‘000 Rs.) and the number
of sales persons X2 in a region. Sample data on 8 regions
of a state has the following results.

Area X1 X2 X3
1 30 11 110
2 40 10 80
3 20 7 70
4 50 15 120
5 60 19 150
6 40 12 90
7 20 8 70
8 60 14 120

i. Fit the least square regression plane of X3 on X1

and X2.
ii. Calculate the partial correlation coefficient r 31.2
iii. Calculate the multiple correlation coefficient R 3.12
