Activity #3 Lab Environment and Safety in The Lab

The document summarizes a science lab assignment on lab safety and procedures. It includes questions to test understanding of appropriate and inappropriate lab behaviors. The summary identifies two students, Heather and Jennifer, who started an experiment without reading directions since they had been absent. As a result, their experiment was incorrectly conducted and yielded incorrect results. The summary concludes they should have asked the teacher for help or explanation given they missed the prior class discussion, and that not following instructions led to an unsuccessful experiment.

avoid braking rules. 2 points each-6 points They aren’t behaving good
total They should be following instruction should be wearing goggles , apron
(Hint: Sometimes they are not breaking a gloves etc… and should not be smelling the chemicals and tasting them or

is still not correct when you use common

For the following scenario, write down the rule being broken and state what the student should have done
differently so to avoid breaking the rule. 3 points total

Example: Cindy was playing with her friend and as a result a test tube broke. Carefully, she picked up pieces

using a dirt picker and a broom rather than her hands because she could have cut herself.
Scenario #1: Heather and Jennifer were absent the day before when the investigation was discussed. They
started doing the lab not taking time to read the directions. At the end they did not get the results they needed
and their entire lab experiment was incorrect.
Answer: rules being broken

1. They should ask the teacher to help them or explain to them
