II. Project/Program Summary

Project Digital Quiz Essentials is a system designed to help educators


create and serve interactive and engaging assessments and quizzes with custom
scoring and automatic recording of results and reporting anchored to the context of
the Department of Education with a minimal knowledge and technical ICT skills
required. The main objective of the system is to save school resources and reduce
the workload of the teachers that comes from administering examination such as
questionnaire reproduction, checking and recording of results, and generating
reports such as MPS, TCR and others while keeping examinations engaging.
The system comprises of three applications namely; Digital Quiz Maker,
Digital Quiz Server and Digital Quiz Browser, bundled in a single package named
Project Digital Quiz Essentials. Each of the application has different functions that
makes the system standalone and independent from the internet. The system has
the capacity to serve and browse examination even in the absence of internet
connection.

Digital Quiz Maker


The quiz maker is responsible for creating professional and interactive
examinations. Educators have a variety of options ranging from the different types
of questions to the different settings and exam properties which makes the quiz
dynamic and can suit up to a various exam situation.
Educators have huge arsenal of questions: True/False, Multiple Choice,
Multiple Response, Identification, Fill in the Blank, Word Bank, Enumeration,
Sequence and Matching Type. Creating quiz is just as easy as entering your
questions in the Microsoft word application. Simply they can choose appropriate
type of question and quickly put it together for a quiz.
Exam properties and settings can be configured according to the needs of the
teachers. Such configurations define and affect the difficulties of the examinations.
Properties and settings can be configured by questions, by parts and by
examination.
Settings that pertains with by questions are the following

- Time limit per questions
- Random Options (if applicable)
- And showing feedback per questions

With the variety of settings and configurations, teachers can experiment them
to maximize the use of assessment in the learning process.

Digital Quiz Server


The main function of the server is to serve the quiz/examination created in
the Digital Quiz Maker and to monitor and consolidate the result of the examination
for recording and analyze the result for reporting based on the context of the
Department of Education.
Serving website required prior and underpinning knowledge and ICT skills
which is not really the fortress of our dear teachers. Considering this fact, the
system makes serving examination easier and user friendly by eliminating some of
the complicated steps that an ordinary teacher may not be able to follow. Batch
registration of examinees are being supported which makes adding exam takers
faster while adding takers manually is being considered. The system will not allow
the uploading of exam if not all configurations are being satisfied to prevent error in
serving the examination.
After successfully serving the examination, the newly uploaded examination
will now be available on the online list of examination showing the URL in which
examination can be browsed by the students. Results generated from the Digital
Quiz Browser will be recorded automatically without any interventions from the
teacher making monitoring of exam’s progress and status come in handy. Teachers
also has the capacity to let the students retake the examination as the server will
not allow student to login/take examination twice or more.
Reports can be downloaded once the examination is over. Such reports are
the following: MPS, TCR, E-Class Record and the consolidated E-Class Record. This
features greatly save the time and efforts of the teachers in generating and
analyzing the results of the examination.

Digital Quiz Browser


The quiz browser is the responsible for browsing examination being serve
from the Digital Quiz Server, logging in exam takers, previewing examinations
based on how it was configured, comparing the taker’s answer with the answer key
and sending the result of examination to the server.
Browsing examination requires examinees’ gadget to be connected to the
same computer network where Digital Quiz Server is also connected to be able to
access the URL shown in the server’s Exam/s Online page. Connection type can be
wired or wireless. This is the same on connecting to a wireless hotspot.
Logging in examinees requires only their LRN. Students already logged in or
had already taken the examination are not allowed to login again unless they are
permitted to retake the examination from the server.
Comprehensive and thorough analysis on the algorithms and logic being used
on checking examinee’s answer and treatment on the results of examination had
been done rationally to avoid inconsistency of results. Examinees can be given a
feed back automatically per question/per examination and can review the result
depending on how the examination is being configured.

System Dependencies
Project Digital Quiz Essentials was created and powered by various javascript
frameworks. React JS framework was used for developing the frontend as it
followed the concept of a single page app and Node JS framework was used for
developing the backend. Axios framework was used for handling HTTP requests and
Express JS for serving static web pages and it replaces apache. Material UI was
used to design the user interface of the system and finally, Electron JS is used to
wrap all the components and build it into a desktop application. The system is not
using any database as it works directly with the files.

The system has a complete application for a teacher to be able to serve
an examination. No extra software is needed.

- Huge arsenal of questions


There are 9 different types of questions to choose from such as
True/False, Multiple Choice, Multiple Response, Identification, Fill in the
Blank, Word Bank, Enumeration, Sequence and Matching Type.

- Setting up points and testing rules


Educators has various settings and configurations to choose making
examination dynamic. With the Quiz Maker, you can set the overall passing
score or assign points for each answer individually, use penalties and set
limits for time and attempts.

- Banking and Randomizing questions


To avoid cheating, you can bank and randomize questions in your
quizzes. When you have more questions in the group, the Quiz Creator can
select random questions from each group, creating countless variations of
the same quiz.

- Batch Registration of examinees


System supports batch registration of examinees with the use of SF1
downloaded from the LIS or with the template that can be downloaded from
the system which makes adding of examinees a hassle free.

- Monitoring of results
The system automatically receives, records and consolidate results
from the quiz browser. This way you can keep track on the examination’s
progress and status.

- Downloading of reports
Reports that come after examination can be downloaded with just a
simple step. This saves educators’ time and effort on generating and
analyzing such reports.

- Answer feedback
Give detailed feedback to help learners review their mistakes and
improve performance.
- Review Result
Enable quiz review let the taker review the result of the examination
which makes examination as source of review material.

III. Project/Program Background

As learning modality varies and with the advent of alternate delivery mode of
learning, tools to produce evaluation materials that suit to these modalities are also
gaining in importance. Teachers are constantly looking for new methods to make
their lessons fun and simple. Using a quiz maker software as a teaching tool
enhances traditional learning methods while also making knowledge transfer
enjoyable.

Consequently, teachers are more inclined to adopt digital quiz makers with
the following features.

Foremost, it must provide an instant result and provide detailed reports. The
use of a digital quiz maker enables educators to track the progress of every student.
Comparing previous results with current one helps the teachers to analyze
performance with all the ease. The presented results enable the teachers to
determine the differences in knowledge. On the other hand, the participants get an
insight into the section which needs improvement.

Next, a quiz creator must aid teachers in providing real time analysis. As quiz
creator software generates actual results with less than a minute and automatically
displays feedback for wrong as well as right answers, it provides meaningful real-
time analysis. With this, the quiz taker can quickly identify the gaps in knowledge.
The participants are aware of the section that needs improvement.
Moreover, a digital quiz creator must cater to the need of different learning
styles. With the software, teachers can provide to various modes of learning by
deploying distinct forms of testing such as Multiple-Choice Questions or fill-in the
blanks and other forms of assessments.

Furthermore, a quiz maker should be cost-effective. The presence of a


computer-based or even smart phone-enabled method of assessment is highly
beneficial as it does away with logistics and the use of the traditional pen and paper
tests. Hence, saving not only money but also time.

Lastly, a quiz creator must reduce administrative burden. The feature of


instant result does away with the need to involve more individuals to check the
answers. It further lets the administrators randomize questions with a click than
doing it manually.

It is in this context that the proponents conceptualized the Project Digital


Quiz Essentials to be shared to all teachers of Bacungan National High School.

With its adoption, it is hoped that teachers’ burden in test administration and
interpretation will be lightened. The time spent in checking voluminous test papers
will instead be used in making instructional materials, thereby contributing to their
efficiency and effectivity in teaching.

IV. Project/Program Objectives

This school innovation aims to:

1) lessen teachers’ burden in test administration and interpretation;


2) facilitate a fun-filled method of assessing students’ performance;
3) eliminate the traditional pen-and-paper tests;
4) provide a quick and instant means of analyzing test results;
5) diminish the “carbon footprints” of the teachers of Bacungan NHS in terms of
test administration.
