Nautocourse ( 102-843) with Nautopilot D/A/A-1 with

single STD14 ( 110-106NG002) Basic

Description of the Old System with STD14

1)Anschütz Fine Step. A 192 Step/one Degree Signal, based on 24 DC.Total load 3
Anschütz Analog Repeaters

2) The Gyrocompass STD14 NG002, has the ability to transmit 3 different Analog
Course Signals:
Sperry Step Signal. 6 Steps/ one Degree. Total load 60mA.

3) A 360 degree SIN/COS Signal from a Coarse Transmitter 11CX.

The STD14 is only together with the Inverter 121-043 a full operable
Gyrocompass.
All Connections are done in the Inverter 121-043.

The Nautocourse was our first Computercontrolled Coursemangement System.

It is sharing the Connection Unit 102-842 with an Autopilot Nautopilot D/ A
Nautocourse is able to receive the Heading Information from 2 Anschütz Gyros,
STD4, 12 ,14,20 and combinations of STD4,12 and 14 ,one Magnetic Heading
Transmitted with a pickup Sonde 108-010,a Speedinformation from a Speedlog ,
200p/Nm and a Latitude input by Hand .

The connectionunit is receiving a Fine Signal ( 192 steps/one degree) on 102-842 ,

6.1 L8
1 to 5.
L8.1= S1 SM0
L8.2= S2 0Volt
L8.3= S3 SM1
L8.4= R2 0V
L8.5= R1 24Volt DC
On the same Terminals, the Nautocourse is able to receive also an Anschütz Fine
Synchro Signal and a Sperry Step Signal. Jumpers on CPU must be set accordingly
the Configuration table.
And a coarse Signal on 102-842,6.1 L8 6 to 10
L8.6= S3
L8.7= S2
L8.8= S1
L8.9= R2
L8.10=R1
The Source of the Reference Voltage is the IO PCB 102-842.39 ( .20 for old type)
and not the SynchroTransmitter itself. The Synchro Transmitter received on R1 and
R2 an AC Voltage from 11,2…..13,6Veff 390Hz with a 8MHz CPU and 488 Hz
with a 10 MHz CPU
This Refit to STD22 Gyro will only work when the NAUTOCOURSE itself is
still working well and all connected repeaters are free from any earthfaults
and short circuits.

1.
Before you start to decommission the STD14, carry out a full check of the
Nautocourse function
Set the follow up switch on the STD14 Gyrocompass to “T”. The STD14
compass card must run to 000°.
Pls. note the exact reading. ( It can be in a range between 359°…. 001°)

2.
Switch off the Connection unit 102-842 by using the small switch on the
Switching regulator 102-842.xxx
Nautocourse and Nautopilot D Operatorunit will be off.
A Nautopilot A Operatorunit will show “888”.
Set the Switch on the switching regulator of the Connection unit 102-842
to on.

3.
The Nautocourse and Autopilot starts up and carried out an internal
selftest.Any detected fault will be indicated in an Error Code. Possible
Errors on the Nautocourse Operatorunit can be:
E3
E7
ICE
---- ( 4 dashes on the display)

On the Nautopilot:
444
555
666
777
888
999

If one of this Errors occurs , the Nautocourse/ Nautopilot System has an in-
or external fault
Which must be fixed before continiuing the Refit to STD22 with the
delivered converters.
( Trouble shooting is in preparation)

4.
Nautocourse and Nautocourse starts up without any errors. The
Nautocourse reads the Coarse Information on L8 6 to 10 automaticly one
time and starts the correction of all connected Synchro repeaters. It can be
that you´ve to synchronize all repeaters with the NAutocourse Operatorunit.

E3
The analog conversion on the I/O board failed. Change the I/O
board.

Kindly note that all IO Boards 102-842.20/39 are obsolete in Kiel.

If you can´t find a sparepart, your refit ended now and you need
another

N-Error (Terminals L6.14 to L6.13(0V))

Activated if the CPU pcb does not work anymore correctly. If this
did occur then other things look bad as well: operation panel
claims missing data, CPU LEDs indication is abnormal.
L6.14 to L6.13------------------ +20 to +28VDC means ok
L6.14 to L6.13------------------ 0V means problem

KUBE (Terminals L7.17 to L6.13(0V))

Level comes from the Nautocourse Course Transducer. If absent
then Alarm E7 at Nautocourse appears. Course Transducer has
power failure, output overload, no input at all, overheating.
L7.17 to L6.13------------------- +3V to 4.5VDC means ok
L7.17 to L6.13------------------- 0V means the Course Transducer
has a problem.

Delta Alpha <3.5degree (Terminals L7.16 to L6.13(0V))

Level comes from the Nautocourse Course Transducer (change
over pcb). If the coarse synchro difference of 2 gyros exeeds 3.5
degrees then the course difference alarm at Nautocourse appears.
The alarm point can be adjusted at the change over pcb.
If there is 1 gyro only with coarse synchro output the there must
be a link between L7.16 to L9.10 (24VDC)
L7.16 to L6.13------------------- +17V to +22VDC if the gyro/gyro
difference is <3.5degrees
L7.16 to L6.13------------------- 0V if the gyro/gyro difference is
>3.5degrees
Pls. note that after the installation of one or two 132-628 this
Alarm isn´t working. The changeover pcb is not able to read the
emulated Course Signal. The mentioned link must be installed and
the Master must be informed about the missing Alarm.

It is not necessary to connect the lines from the 132-628 and 146-103 to the
coursetransducer 132-606 in this combination.
The connection unit must receive the sperry steps on L8 1 to 5 and the
coarse 360°/ 1 Rev. on L8 6 to 10.

The Coursetransducer 132-606 received a corrected fine signal from the

connectionunit 102-842 and is in this combination only a booster for all
Synchro Fine Repeaters.
50/60 Volt AC 50/60Hz on R1 to R2.

The fineoutput from STD14 comes out of the Inverter 121-043. it was an
Anschütz Finestepsignal with 192 step/ 1 degree. We use the same
Terminal on the connectionunit but we will use the Sperry Step signal with 6
Step / one degree instead the fine step STD14.

The CPU in the 102-842 must set to Sperry Step. B9.8 must be removed
and the 102-842 must be reseted to read the Jumperfield.

The fine signal Sperry Step is transmitted from the 146-103.

The Coarse Converter 132-628 must be connected to 24 Volt. The

Reference Voltage on R1 and R2 is generated by the IO PCB in the 102-
842.
Thats the 2nd PCB .
FU Amplifier, IO PCB, CPU, IO Course , Power PCB.

The Problem is that the IO PCB is reading the Coarse information on S1

S2 S3 only one time. Afterwards, the Connectionunit 102-842 reads only
the fine information on L8.1 to 5.
It can happens that the IO PCB is reading the information but it can be that
the next time can fail.
Thats the reason why you should check the Voltage Level on the Testpoints
of the IO PCB. On test points you can see the demodulated SIN/ COS
Signal in DC.

That Signallevel must be in the mentioned limit. If not, the system will fail
later to read the Coarse from the 132-628.

How to adjust the Transducer 132-628NG001 Coarse output by Multimeter

Switch off the follow up system of the Gyro STD22. Set the Gyro Heading to
000° and check the demodulated voltage on TP11 to TP1 ( 0 Volt) and
TP12 to TP1 ( ~ 7,5 to 8,0 VDC)

With the Jumpers inside the 132-628 you can adjust the level of the 400 Hz
Signal in a small range. If you change it, you can see that the Signallevel on
the Testpoints will change. Look for the best level by trying different Jumper
Combinations.

You must switch off or reset the 132-628 after any change to allow the CPU
to read the new Jumper combination.

Set the Gyroheading to 090° and check again the Voltage. Now TP11 to
TP1 must be between -8 to -7.5VDC and TP 12 to Tp1 must be 0 Volt.

Set the Gyroheading to 180°. TP11 to TP1 must show 0 Volt and TP12 –
7.5 to 8 VDC

Set the GYroheading to 270°. TP11 to TP01 shows + 7.5 to + 8 Volt and
TP12 0 Volt.

If the voltage is correct you test the Gyrocompass STD22 together with the
Nautocourse in different Heading positions.

Check of the Sperry Stepinputs on the IO Board.102-842.39

The IO Board is using 2 op-amps instead of Optocoplers to read the Fine

Information
On S1 S2 S3. This Input is not galvanic isolated and a second consumer of
the signal
( Radar, Sat TV) can be disturbed by the IO Board.

The inputs on S1 S2 S3 are not active when the 35 Volt is missing on R1

R2.
Reference for all measurements is again TP01 ( TP0).

One fine revolution on the fictive shaft of the Gyro is one degree.
Set the Gyro Heading to XXX,0 degree.

TP 9 must show 0 Volt TP10 + 2 Volt DC

it can happens that an Alarm (----) appears on the NAutocourseoperatorunit

When you move the follow up system of the STD22 in Testmode with the
maximum
Follow up speed of the Gyro.
This is normal and you can ignore it because this ROT is lacking in practical
relevance
On a Seagoing Vessel.

If you are unable to get the 132-628NG001 to work with the NAutocourse you
have to use the External Reference Voltage Source from the Static Inverter 121-
055NG004.

For this work you have to remove the IO Board, the CPU and the IO Course Board.
Take care and use your personal ESD Protecting Kit to avoid Discharge over the
boards.
A.
Switch off the main power to the connection unit. 230 AC and 24 Volt DC should
be off.

B.
Remove IO PCB, CPUand IO Course and store it on a safe ESD free place.

C.
Solder a bridge between the Testpoints L13 and L14. The bridge is located
between the I/O PCB and the CPU on the lefthand side.

D.
Disconnect the wires on L8. 9 and 10 and isolate the wires.

E.
Install the Inverter 121-055NG004 and connect four wires to 132-628NG001

121-055NG004 L1.10 to 132-628NG001 B3.2 and 148-625 L1.1

L1.13 to B3.1.and 148-625 L1.17
24 Volt Feeding on L1.2+ and L1.3-

F.
Connect two wires from Protection Clamp 148-625 L1.14 to Connection Unit 102-
842 L8.19 and
148-625 L1.17 to 102-842 L8.20

G.
Install the PCBs and power up all units and continue with the adjustment of the
Jumpers.

Troubleshooting:

If the 360 degree converter 132-628 shows an error of 180 degrees, swop the
wires on
B3 1 and 2.

If the first readout of the NAutocourse was correct but your move the Gyro to 090
degrees and you allow the NAutocourse by switching to magnetic and back to
Gyro 1 and the Display
shows 270 degrees you have to swop S1 and S3 on L8.8 and L8.6 of the
connectionunit 102-842
