Task 3: Connecting with Academic administrators
He mentioned that the reason students want to invest time, energy and money for an MBA program is because they want to move ahead in
their career from the tactical role to a more strategic role. The two roles require very different skillset. As part of the formal education, we are
mostly taught the skill set required for performing the tactical jobs. Our curriculum should focus more on developing the strategic skill set, and
not on tactical topics. Accordingly, he suggests including Organization behaviour, Business finance, Project Management, Business
laws/regulations and Data Analysis in the core curriculum.
People skill is another subject that is not taught in a traditional school and are a must for today’s manager. Accordingly, he suggests including
Negotiation skills, HR fundamentals, Communication skills also into the core curriculum.
He suggests the course should be at least one year duration. And each lecture should follow 45 min teaching + 15 min Q&A
The new businesses are more and more global and require a new mindset to succeed in today’s environment. In his opinion a Masters program
in Innovation and Entrepreneurship should have International Business, Business Laws/Regulations, Intellectual Property protection, Business
Finance and Project Management as the core curriculum
Yves also suggests spending time on building Business acumen, and people soft-skills.
