Data0305 MX485net

The document summarizes the MX-485 Network, which allows up to 248 Matrix control panels to be linked into a common network via RS485 communication. This enables a local monitoring center to receive events from the linked panels and remotely program and control the panels. The network provides full supervision of connected systems while allowing the Matrix panels to retain independence with their own communicators to call the monitoring center in case of a network fault.

System Overview
The MX-485 Network is the ideal solution where there is local monitoring of many independent premises via a
local network. It allows up to 248 Matrix control panels to be linked into one common network based on a RS485
communication protocol.

The MX-485Network enables the local monitoring center not only to receive Contact ID events transmitted by the
linked Matrix panels via the RS485.

Even if used with the MX485 network, the Matrix panels still retain their independency and can be used to back up
calls via the built in digital communicator. In addition using the MX-VOICE module voice messages can be sent to
the user informing them of alarm or maintenance events.

The basic system can reach up to 1km in length, however by the use of RS485 repeaters it is possible to expand the
coverage.

Feature Benefits
Extensive system via a local network Ensures full supervision of the network line with no additional
call costs.
Uni-directional Network 1. Ensures Contact ID events transmitted via the network to
the with the following control panels: monitoring centre using MX-MON software.
MX-6 2. Remote maintenance without visiting each individual
MX-816 system.

Bi-directional Network 1. Ensures Contact ID events transmitted via the network to

with the following control panels: the monitoring centre using MX-MON software.
MX-424 2. Remote maintenance without visiting each individual
MX-832 system.
MX-832+ 3. Enables the full programming of the control panels using
the network reducing installation time.
4. Remote arm / disarm via the MX485Network
5. Remote triggering of the Matrix PGMs (Programmable
Outputs) via the MX485Network Long distance monitoring
by using VPN It is possible to manage long distance
connection to the site. (Virtual Private Networking)

Network Independency
Matrix panels retain their full independency from the network, therefore if the network is down there is no
compromise on security. It is even possible to set up the digital communicator within the panels to call in
the event of a network fault.
