A suitable chicken coop site should be raised off the ground, have an easy-to-clean floor covered in wood shavings, and walls made of mud, timber, or iron sheets. The coop needs to be spacious, with enough floor space and perches for the chickens to roost, as well as nesting boxes for egg laying away from dirt and cracks. The coop should also have a large door, footbath, and be oriented east-west with a dry roof and sunlight penetration.
