and (2) you should be able to describe the types of arts. Do you have any idea why there is a need for colors?
Why some designs were so functionally beautiful? Why some artists are dancers, singers, painters? Why people
are so obsessed to be beautiful or handsome? Why beauty is important? Today you will be able to have an idea
what art is all about. Let’s start! Are you ready?
Directions: On the first column of the What I Know Chart, write the answer to each question based on your prior
knowledge. Leave the “What I Learned Column, you will be answering that later.
B.MAIN LESSON
Art is a creative activity that expresses imaginative or technical skills. It produces a product, an object. The
product of art is called a work of art, for others to experience. ... It includes drawing, painting, sculpting,
photography, performance art, dance, music, poetry, prose and theatre.
Art is something created by an artist based on his imaginations or thoughts and it maybe from inspiration of
natural beauty. It is different from nature in the sense that God created nature. It can be visual, auditory or
performing arts.
Classified as traditional arts or liberal arts. The seven traditional subdivision of the Arts, being Architecture,
Sculpture, Painting, Literature, Music, Performing, and Film. The Seven Liberal Arts, being grammar, logic,
rhetoric, arithmetic, geometry, music, astronomy as well as literature and other media such as interactive
media
Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual (painting, etc), auditory( songs) or performing
(dance, acting) artifacts (artworks), expressing the author's imaginative, conceptual ideas, or technical skill,
intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. Other activities related to the production of
works of art include the criticism of art, the study of the history of art, and the aesthetic dissemination of art.
The original classical definition - derived from the Latin word "ars" (meaning "skill" or "craft") - is a useful
starting point. This broad approach leads to art being defined as: "the product of a body of knowledge, most
often using a set of skills."
The three classical branches of art are painting, sculpture and architecture. Music, theatre, film, dance,
and other performing arts, as well as literature and other media such as interactive media, are included in
a broader definition of the arts.
Literature, most generically, is anybody or collection of written works. More restrictively, literature refers to
writing considered to be an art form or any single writing deemed to have artistic or intellectual value, and
sometimes deploys language in ways that differ from ordinary usage.
Performing arts refers to forms of art in which artists use their voices, bodies or inanimate objects to convey
artistic expression. It is different from visual arts, which is when artists use paint, canvas or various materials
to create physical or static art objects. Performing arts include a range of disciplines which are performed
in front of a live audience such as orchestra, bands, singers, dancers, actors/actresses, orators..
Though the definition of what constitutes art is disputed and has changed over time, general descriptions
mention an idea of imaginative or technical skill stemming from human agency] and creation. The nature of
art and related concepts, such as creativity and interpretation, are explored in a branch of philosophy known
as aesthetics. Aesthetics is a branch of philosophy that deals with the nature of beauty and taste, as well
as the philosophy of art. It examines subjective and sensory-emotional values or sometimes called
judgments of sentiments and taste.
Aesthetic value is the importance given to anything of beauty. People are investing in beautiful things such
as cars, houses, jewelries, shoes, bags and beautiful people. Loving beautiful things and people is easier
than loving the ugly, little something and someone.
Interactive media normally refers to products and services on digital computer-based systems which
respond to the user's actions by presenting content such as text, moving image, animation, video, audio,
and video games.
Economic Value of arts. Artists can earn money from different creative talents that they perform like singers
from concerts and recordings, dancers are paid per performance but painters are paid per art piece they sold
while architects are paid per project design that they do for houses, building, community plans.
1. Construct your concept map of performing artists, include everything they do as performance.
