WHAT’S NEW
Part A.
Question 1. Ana and Mario

Part B.
2.
a. Yes
b. Yes, due to the fact that air can be compressed.
c. Yes, because air particles can be manipulated to occupy additional space.

Activity 3: Examining Kinetic Molecular Theory

1. Because the air within the balloon is a gas, the particles move very quickly in all directions and are
separated by a large amount of space. They clash with the internal wall of the balloon on a regular basis,
which keeps it completely inflated.
2. The fact that the bag inflates and the mothballs shrink shows that some of the mothballs have turned
into gas. The mothball particles move freely as a gas and are separated by a much greater distance, which
is why the bag inflated.
3. The gas particles inside the aerosol can be crushed or squeezed very tightly. The stove's heat causes
these particles to move quicker and apply more pressure on the interior surface of the can, making the can
to explode.
