Steering Control Valve - Test and Adjust

SMCS - 4307-036

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and

hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system

after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be
caused if this pressure is not released before any service is
done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is

cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil
filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is
cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Introduction
The steering clutch hydraulic control valve directs oil from the pressure relief valve to the
steering clutches and to the hydraulic control mechanisms of the brakes.

Follow this procedure in order to test the pressure setting of the steering clutch hydraulic
control valve. The steering clutch hydraulic control valve is not adjustable.

5. Start the engine. Warm the power train oil to operating temperature.

6. Disengage the parking brake. Make sure that the transmission selection lever is in
the NEUTRAL position. Make sure that the steering control levers are in the
NEUTRAL position. Operate the engine at LOW IDLE.

7. Move the steering control lever for the left clutch to the FULL LEFT STEER
position. Check the pressure at tooling (A) that is connected to pressure tap (J). The
pressure at tooling (A) should be 2275 kPa (330 psi) minimum. Release the control
lever. The pressure on tooling (A) should return to zero.

Repeat this step for the right steering clutch. Check the pressure for the right
steering clutch at tooling (A) that is connected to pressure tap (K) .

8. The pressure relief valve of the sequence relief valve must be tested if the pressure
reading of pressure tap (J) or pressure tap (K) is out of tolerance. Refer to Testing
and Adjusting, "Sequence Relief Valve - Test and Adjust" that is in this manual for
the testing and adjusting procedure.
