Fault Management Rule Setting

n Introduce of Fault Management Rule

n Creating Management Rule

n Other Operations of Fault Management Rule

Introduce of Fault Management Rules
Rule type Introduce
Setting Alarm Merging Rule
To reduce the items of the same alarms
displayed and to highlight important alarm.
The alarms merged by the rule are those
belonging to the same fault type and occurring
repeatedly. After creation of alarm merging
rule, qualified alarms will merge into one alarm
displayed at client end
Setting Alarm Persisting Rule To alert the user to troubleshoot important
faults that persist for a long time. When the
alarm persisting time reaches a certain value
within a certain period as specified in the rule,
“alarm persisting” alarm will be generated
Setting Alarm Counting Rule To highlight the occurrence frequency of
important faults. When the alarm occurrence
times reaches a certain value within a certain
period as specified in the rule, “alarm counting”
alarm will be generated
Setting Alarm Global Filtering Rule To decide whether an alarm will be sent from
server to client. The rule is applicable to all
login clients. When one alarm is filtered by the
rule, all clients will not be able to see the alarm

66
Introduce of Fault Management Rules
Rule type Introduce
Setting Alarm Discarding Rule To decide whether an alarm should be handled
or discarded when the server gets the alarm.
If an alarm meets the rule condition, the alarm
will be discarded by the fault management
module, which means that the alarm will
neither be let into database/alarm pool, nor
be sent to the client(s)
Setting Alarm Delaying Rule
It is not necessary for the alarm that can be
restored within the specified delay time to be
displayed at client end. If the alarm fails to be
restored within the delay time as specified by
the rule, the alarm will be declared at client
end.
The alarm that can be restored within the
specified delay time is saved in history alarm
database
Setting Alarm Restraining Rule
To restrain the alarms reported from
foreground NE to background NMS.
The alarm that meets the rule condition is
kept at NMS server end and will not be sent
to client end

67
Introduce of Fault Management Rules
Rule type Introduce
Setting Alarm Masking Rule The alarms that is regarded as unnecessary
to be reported should not be reported to NMS
server. The purpose of the alarm masking rule
is to keep the qualified alarms at equipment
side
Setting Alarm User Filtering Rule To decide whether an alarm sent to client
should be displayed in alarm list. The rule is
only effective for the rule maker, which means
it is not applicable to other login clients. If an
alarm is filtered by one client, the alarm still
can be seen by other login clients
Setting Alarm Forwarding Rule The function of automatic alarm forwarding
helps relieve system maintenance workload
Setting Alarm Clearing Rule The function of automatic alarm clearing helps
relieve system maintenance workload
Setting Alarm Acknowledging Rule The function of automatic alarm acknowledging
helps relieve system maintenance workload
Setting Notification Global Filtering Rule To decide whether a notification will be sent
from server to client. The rule is applicable
to all login clients. When one notification is
filtered by the rule, all clients will not be able
to see the notification

68
Introduce of Fault Management Rules
Rule type Introduce
Setting Notification Discarding Rule To decide whether a notification should be
handled or discarded when the server gets
the notification. If a notification meets the rule
condition, the notification will be discarded by
the fault management module, which means
that the notification will neither be let into
database/notification pool, nor be sent to the
client(s)

69
Creating Management Rule
Step 1: Click [Setting→ Management Rule Setting] on the main
menu of fault management. Management Rule Setting interface ap-
pears.

Step 2: Select rule type in the pull-down list. “Alarm Acknowledging

Rule” is selected in this example. Click on the tool bar.

70
Creating Management Rule
Alarm Acknowledging Rule interface appears.

Step 3: Click OK to complete creation of alarm acknowledging rule.

71
Other Operation of Fault Management Rule
Tool Operation Introduce
Modify Fault Management Modifiable items include
Rule rule description, selection
condition, etc
Enabling Management Rule
To enable a rule that is in
“disable” status.
The default rule status is
“enable” once upon rule
creation. Only the fault
management rule in “enable”
status is effective
Disabling Management Rule To disable a rule that is in
“enable” status
Deleting Management Rule To delete a fault management
rule
