Load and Definition

Open File from Activity 5 wherein the specification and supports are all set

Truss Reaction Transfer and Truss Reference Loading will be skipped considering that there is
no trusses on the structure and will proceed into Load Items

To begin with, create group for 2nd to roof deck floor slab by pressing ctrl + G on navigating to
Tools>Create New Group.
The group menu will popup input the name of the group and select Floor on the select type
After creating a new group, another menu will popup

Select beams supporting the floor that is indicated in the group and make sure to not select
open space like on the stairs.
After selecting the beams, press associate on the Group menu and the name will indicate that it
is assigned on its name.

Repeat this process up to the roof deck

After doing the groups, proceed to Load & Definition on the general tab in the left side of the
window.

Then on the Reference Load Definition, click add and input Dead load while selecting Mass on
loading type. This will be used for all dead loads
Add self-weight wing +1 factor

After creating self-weight, select Assign to View the click Assign at the bottom of the menu
In addition to dead load, add Floor Load wherein the groups will be used.

For Load Pressure, slab thickness multiplied by 24, and then add

Then add another load for 3rd floor exterior walls, navigate to member load and compute the
weight, 2.75 (6" CHB) + 0.5 (plaster) multiplied to height of the wall minus the beam
For 3rd floor interior wall/divider, 2.15 (4" CHB) + 0.5 (plaster) multiplied by height of the wall
minus the beam

For the stair, 0.2 (average thickness) multiplied by 24 kPa multiplied to the distance of 2 beams
divided by 2. Then add another load for 2nd floor exterior walls, navigate to member load and
compute the weight, 2.75 (6" CHB) + 0.5 (plaster) multiplied to height of the wall minus the
beam.

For 2nd floor interior wall/divider, 2.15 (4" CHB) + 0.5 (plaster) multiplied by height of the wall
minus the beam

After Adding the Loads, group beams for each load to have more organized coding.
After assigning the groups to its respected beams, proceed to assigning loads to a temporary
beam and launch STAAD editor.

Navigate to Define Reference Load

On member load, change the temporary beam number to the group created assigned to the
load and save.

Check if the loads has bean assigned

Seismic Definition
Add new Seismic Definition and input details based on design criteria.

Wind load Definition

Create new wind definition both for leeward and windward on x and z axis

Then Define pressure for all types, click on the add button then calculate as per ASCE-7. After
that, set ASC-7 to 2010, building category to 3, basic wind speed to 260kmph and apply
Proceed to Main Building Data, set all units to meters and input the data needed then apply

On Building Design Pressure, select according to the definition that will be added to and click
ok and add.
Load Cases
Add load cases for seismic

Next, Add for Dead load

Next, Add for Live load

Next, add for roof live load

Next, add wind load for z and x axis

Defining Load cases

Add load items for seismic load by navigating to add>Seismic Loads>Factor & Direction

Set details for seismic, the direction that will be inputted is according to the load case, the
factor depends on the direction in the axis. For the factor for accidental torsion moment, input
5% and the sign depends on whether the eccentricity. Finally on factor for natural torsion
moment, input 1
For dead load, add repeat load>reference load and add the load with -1 factor to be downward
direction
For live load, create groups per type of area in the residential and assign it

Then proceed to Floor load and input load pressure based on NSCP design criteria
Next, add live load for stair, load it as member load and assign it using the STAAD editor with
the groups
For wind load cases, navigate to wind load in load items then select type (depending on wind
definitions) and select exposed surface depending on the load case
Next is Diaphragm definitions, navigate to specs and press Node

Then, navigate to floor diaphragm and input height of the floor. After that, check the define
floor range and select nodes then add.
After adding, select node for that floor and assign it
Before doing load combination, proceed to material tab first and change concrete to young's
modulus=2.1538e+007, density=24, and Fcu=21000 then click ok and assign to view
Before combinations, add analysis beforehand, navigate to analysis tab and add.

Analyze through analyze tab on the top and run analysis and correct error and warnings
Create new auto load rules by navigating to commands>loading>edit auto load rules

Click new code for NSCP 2015 and add categories based on the design criteria
Then navigate again to load cases details and add auto load combination

Set code to NSCP 2015, add drift checking then generate loads, and add
After generating load combination, proceed to check drift. To check drift, navigate to analysis
page and go to post-print then define commands to load list. Select all drift and add. Before
checking, print all requirements first and these are Dia CR and story drift

In addition, navigate to commands>miscellaneous>check soft story and select ASCE7 – 05

Analyze to check if there are errors or warning
Design
On analysis>post-print>define commands, select all USD+Ev and add
After that, proceed to design page then concrete. Select current code on the upper side of the
menu and set it to ACI 318 2011
Then click define parameters, set CLB to 0.03

CLS to 0.04
CLT to 0.03

FC to 21000
FYMAIN to 275000 (Residential)

FYSEC to 275000
MAXMAIN to 25

MINMAIN to 16
MINSEC for beam = 10; MINSEC for column = 12

TRACK, select 2
After defining parameters, proceed to commands, add design beam, and design column.

Then assign parameters

Run analysis
Support reaction transfer
Navigate to post processing page (make sure that the structure is analyzed)

Proceed to node page then reactions

Open Excel and copy reaction data

To fix filter search, click the question mark (result setup) on the tab above in STAAD
Remove all labeled with "Generated NSCP 2015"

Then copy again to excel

Repeat process just like on truss reaction transfer in excel

Open substructure file the proceed to load and definitions

Add load cases just like on the super structure then open STAAD editor and paste reaction
below respective load cases
For dead load, add wall weight and self-weight first before transferring loads from excel to
STAAD editor

Then, transfer reactions to STAAD editor from excel

For live load, same as dead load, add live load first for each floor area and paste reactions from
excel to editor

For wind load, just paste reaction from excel to STAAD editor for each case
Substructure Design
Click Load case details and add, then proceed to auto load combination and set code to NSCP
2015 and category to USD+Ev then generate load and add

Next, set category to service then generate load and add

Last one category is USD for footing design, click generate load and add

After adding load combination, proceed to material and just like on the superstructure, change
concrete to 21MPA and assign to view
Proceed to analysis and add analysis

Then proceed to post-print and add load list, which are those, labeled with “Generated NSCP
2015 USD"
After that, proceed to design>concrete>define parameters, set it just like on the super structure

Then run analysis

Then view output>result

Then navigate to foundation design and include parameters then run STAAD foundation
