DeltaV Tips and Tricks

The document provides tips for using different control modules in DeltaV including: 1. For the continuous historian, it describes how to add variables to be recorded and view the recorded history. 2. For the integrator block, it recommends enabling inputs, reversing sign if needed, setting the integration type, and using a limit block to constrain the output. 3. For the PID block, it recommends setting the mode to auto, scaling the input/output, selecting the process type if integrating, and ensuring the set order is correct.

Continuous Historian: 1. Add the desired area to the continuous historian of the controller. a. Upload/download 2.

Click on the continuous historian and select (Object/Properties) from the ribbon and click enable. 3. Click on the desired module and select (Object/History Collection) and add the desired variables to the history collection. 4. Click on the continuous historian and select (Object/History) and confirm which variables you want recorded 5. Launch the Process History View from the Ribbon a. Select chart or desired type b. Ensure that a variable is being measured (Parameter Reference) i. If not click add and select a variable Integrator Block Tips: 1. If using IN2, ensure it is enabled ENABLE_IN_2 2. You can reverse the sign of the inputs using REV_FLOW# 3. Always Modify INTEG_TYPE to a desired setting 4. Ensure the Set Order is correct 5. N-RESET is very handy to bring the output back to normal 6. Constrain the output using a LIMIT block to something realistic PID Block Tips: 1. Ensure the MODE is Auto 2. Set a desired SP 3. Use OUT_SCALE and all associated OUT_HI_LIM and ARW_HI_LIM settings to 0 to 100%. Scaling should be done outside of the PID block as this is a lot easier to setup and is more realistic. 4. Select PV_SCALE to what you expect the input range to be 5. If the process is integrating, select this under PROCESS_TYPE 6. Select Direct Acting or not under CONTROL_OPTS 7. Ensure the Set Order is correct 8. Always select download before putting controller Online Cascade Loop Tips: 1. Under Library, Module Templates, Analog Control you can find a Cascade Master Module in DeltaV explorer. 2. If you constructed one manually, you must ensure the slave sloop PID has Use PV for BKCAL_OUT on CONTROL_OPTS. 3. Ensure the units of the BKCALs and the PID blocks outputs are in the same units 4. Tune the Master Loop 3 times slower than the Slave Loop to prevent the controllers from fighting each other. a. Use Lambda Tuning Method
