Module 10 Social - Responsibility
INTRODUCTION
Social responsibility is the moral and ethical content of managerial and corporate
decisions over and above the pragmatic requirements imposed by legal principle and
the market economy. It is concerned with low individuals and organizations deal with
current and social issues.
The general public has a rather broad and all-inclusive definition of the social
responsibility of business organizations.

1. It is in the best interest of the business to promote and improve the communities
where it does business
2. Social actions can be profitable
3. It is the ethical thing to do
4. It improves the public image of the firm
5. It increases the viability of the business system.
6. It is necessary to avoid government regulation
7. Socio-cultural norms require it
8. It is in the stockholder’s best interest
9. Laws cannot be passed for all circumstances
10. Society should give business a chance to solve social problems that government
failed to solve
11. Business is considered, by some groups, to be the institution with the financial
and human resources to solve social problems
12. Prevention of problems is better than cure

Social responsibility deals with how individuals and organizations handle current social
issues. Business ethics are concerned with the day-to-day behavior standards of
individuals and organizations.
THE CONCEPTS
The owners, management, the workforce, the suppliers, and the sub-contractors,
the customers, and government contribute to the performance of the business
enterprise
The resources employed by a business enterprise are financial, technological
and human. The human resources have a unique quality and should be
employed in manner consistent with personal dignity.
Business enterprise has a public responsibility to use all its resources efficiently
Competition and inventiveness are essential for the maintenance and continuing
improvement of the quality of goods and services for growth and for technological
progress.
In business, as in any other institutions of society, any right or authority enjoyed
by or entrusted to business presupposes, and is justified by, corresponding
duties, responsibilities, and performance.
