Additional exam materials list – June 2022
The additional exam materials list is updated before each series. You should make sure you only use
the list for the relevant exam series and year.
This list is valid for any exam in the June 2022 exam series where candidates require additional exam
materials. This PDF list will tell you:
From 2020, the ‘Additional Materials’ section on the front covers of question papers will say: ‘You
will need:’. This will list what the candidate needs, and will include items we provide such as an
answer booklet, an insert or a map. It will also include the extra exam materials that you need to
provide to the candidate in addition to the standard materials that all candidates need.
Calculators are no longer listed in this document as additional exam materials for mathematics
components. See ‘Materials candidates must provide’ below.
• writing paper/answer booklets unless the list states that candidates should answer on the
question paper or multiple-choice answer sheets, or if an answer booklet has been provided
as an insert in the question paper
• rough paper. You should ask candidates to cross through any rough work neatly and to hand
it in with their answer scripts.
• for some mathematics papers, candidates may have been taught using tracing paper for
transformations. Where this is the case you should provide candidates with tracing paper.
• for all science components: a calculator, 300 mm ruler, protractor, set square and pair of
compasses
It is essential that you make sure that candidates do not bring any unauthorised materials into the
exam room. See section 5.1.7 of the Cambridge Handbook for further guidance on this.
• specific materials for use in science exams. You will find these in the relevant syllabus booklet
or in the confidential instructions that come with the question papers
• details of the maps supplied for Cambridge IGCSE Geography components. These are sent
together with the question papers
• the standard materials the centre needs to record speaking and listening tests such as CDs
• references to accounting paper, music paper and A2/A3 drawing paper or technical drawing
equipment. The instructions on the front of the specific question paper state whether these
materials are needed.
Calculators
Candidates may use calculators in exams unless the relevant syllabus and the front of the question
paper state that calculators are prohibited.
PLEASE NOTE: Calculators are not allowed for certain mathematics components. See the 'Materials
candidates must provide' section on page 1 for a list.
If the syllabus or the front of the question paper do not state that calculators are prohibited or do
not mention calculators, candidates can use a calculator if they want to.
Invigilators should check a sample of the candidates’ calculators before the start of the exam to
make sure they comply with our regulations in section 5 of the Cambridge Handbook.
For Associate Centres we may, in consultation with the relevant Cambridge Associate, issue specific
local regulations for the use of calculators. Where this happens, the local regulations will override
any other regulations.
Dictionaries are not allowed in these exams, except where specifically permitted by the
syllabus
• Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge IGCSE (9–1)
Simple translation dictionaries are allowed, except in language exams or where they are
specifically prohibited in the syllabus. ‘Simple translation dictionary’ means a dictionary that
only translates the word and does not give a translation of the meaning or definition of the
word
• Cambridge Primary Checkpoint and Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint
Simple translation dictionaries are allowed in science and mathematics tests. They are not
allowed in English and English as a Second Language tests.
