1. Introduction
Avant Tecno Oy wants to thank you for purchasing this original Avant attachment. It
is the result of Avant´s long experience in design and manufacturing of attachments.
We ask you that you read and understand the contents of this manual completely
before operating the attachment. This will improve your operating and maintenance
efficiency, help avoid breakdowns and damage and extend your machines life.
Do not hesitate to contact your local Avant dealer for advice regarding service, parts
and any problems relating to the operation of your attachment.
2. Designed purpose
Brush 130 is designed for sweeping solid surfaces like asphalt or concrete. It is
designed for Avant loaders only.
Brush 130 should only be used for sweeping small debris. (i.e. dirt, sand tree leaves
etc.) It will not collect any large items like carton mugs or similar.
Brush 130 is designed for outdoor use only.
3. Safety instructions
• Never use the brush without instructions. Read all the decals and
this manual.
• Start the operation slowly and carefully.
• Do not wear loose clothing, long uncovered hair or jewellery near
the machine.
• When coupling the attachment, make sure that the attachment
locking pins lock in positively.
• Keep hands, feet and clothing away from any moving part.
• Do not leave the drivers seat while the brush is running.
• Always wear dust respirator filter when working with the brush.
• Never go under an uplifted attachment.
• Always carry the attachment as low as possible.
• Never perform any service operations when the engine is running.
3
4. Technical specification
• The brush is equipped with a floating attachment plate (the attachment plate
moves freely up and down following the contours of the ground).
Stage 1:
• Lift up the two locking pins on either side of
the attachment coupling plate and turn them
backward so that they remain in the locked
up position.
• Make sure, that the pins remain in the up
position; otherwise you cannot couple the
attachment properly!
4
Stage 2:
Stage 3:
Stage 4:
Always remember the safety instructions from paragraph 3, when attaching the brush.
The brush has three hydraulic quick couplings, which should be attached to the
corresponding couplings in the loader. There are two male couplings and one female
coupling in the brush. The loader has correspondingly one male coupling and two
female couplings.
The hoses from the brush should be attached to the loader correctly (pressure line to
pressure line and return line to return line). The blue rubber caps of the couplings
always mark the pressure line (one on the loader and one on the attachment). Always
connect them as a pair. This way the brush starts to rotate in the right direction, when
the loader’s auxiliary hydraulics control lever is turned into the locking position.
5
If the brush starts to rotate in the wrong direction (the brush should rotate away from
the loader) when the loader’s auxiliary hydraulics lever is turned to right in its locked
position, switch the couplings of the return- and pressure hose. See picture 1
Picture 1
Always make sure, that all quick couplings are properly locked in before starting
the engine. The hydraulic motor of the brush may get damaged, if one of the
couplings is not locked in.
• For coupling the hydraulic hoses see also the operators manual of the loader.
• Always keep in mind the safety instructions from paragraph 3, when coupling
the attachments.
Always begin brushing by lifting the brush up to about a meter high and check the
functions of the brush. After checking the functions leave the brush rotating in the
correct direction and lower it to the ground. The collector box closes when the brush
is rotating in the right direction. If the brush is lowered when the collector box is open
the box might get damaged.
Never lower the brush if it is not already rotating in the right direction. This way you
can be sure, that the collector box is closed and it is safe to lower the brush.
The collector opens when the auxiliary hydraulics control lever is moved to the left.
If all the debris will not come out when the box is opened try moving the auxiliary
hydraulics lever quickly from right to left a couple of times. This should shake the
box enough to get out all the brushed material.
6
The brush is equipped with a mechanical floating, which allows it to freely follow the
contours of the ground. If the attachment plate on the brush would be rigid the brush
would always lift the front wheels of the loader in the air on sudden bumps and the
brush would be lifted in the air on sudden down hills.
To get the full advantage from this system you need to adjust it correctly before you
start working with the brush. The floating should be set so, that it is in the middle of
the floating slot. See picture 2 This way the brush can move freely up and down as
much as possible.
Picture 2
If your loader is equipped with boom floating you should switch it on as well.
Loaders boom floating releases the boom so that it can move freely up and down.
This allows the brush to move even more in case the brushed ground is uneven.
The boom floating is switched on from its control lever in the loaders footwell. It
should be switched on only when the boom is in its lowest position.

Picture 4
When the plug is connected to the connector, loader’s engine is running and the
auxiliary hydraulics is on you are able to slew the brush.
NOTE: You have to keep the brush rolling against the ground in order to get enough
pressure for the slewing cylinder. If the brush is rolling in the air you might not be
able to slew the brush.
8
When the brush is attached to the loader’s attachment plate, all hydraulic couplings
are attached you are ready to start working. Start the brush by moving the auxiliary
hydraulics control lever right to its lock position. If after doing this the collector box
opens and the brush starts rotating in the wrong direction you have to change the
coupling of the hydraulic hoses. (See picture 1 and read chapter 5.2 on page 5)
If you have a plus-model loader (520+, 523+, 528+ or 530+) you should always
operate the brush with both pumps. (2-Pump selection on the dashboard, see loaders
operators manual) This ensures that the brush rotates fast enough to achieve the best
possible brushing result.
Never lower the brush if it is not already rotating in the right direction. This way you
can be sure that the collector box is closed and it is safe to lower the brush.
8. Service
8.1 Greasing
The brush has either four (4) or five (5) greasing points depending on the amount of
options. Every support wheel has one greasing point, when viewed from the front on
the left side of the brush is one on the brush bearings and if the brush has a side brush
it has one greasing point at the end of its arm where it mounts to the brush frame.
The brush bearing should be greased after every 7-10 hours of use. The other points
should be greased approximately twice a year.
The brushing height should be adjusted normally only when the brushes are so worn
out that they do not touch the ground properly or if you have changed all the brush
sections. The height is adjusted with the plastic spacers, which are around the vertical
shaft of the support wheels. Every shaft should hold four 20 mm spacers and two 10
mm spacers.
1. Lift the brush up to about 1 meter height with your loader and stop the
engine.
2. Open and remove the pin from the vertical axel of the wheel support.
3. Pull the support wheel away from its bracket.
4. Move the plastic rings to the upper side of the bracket if you wish to lower
the brush and other way round if you wish to increase brushing height.
5. Push the vertical wheel support axel back trough the bracket and put the
pin back on.
6. Repeat phases 2 – 5 with all the other wheels as well. When you are
finished, make sure, that there are equal amount of same sized plastic
rings on top of each bracket.
9
When you adjust the height of a brush, which has a collector box you also have to
adjust the plate in front of the brush. If the plate in front is not adjusted it will wear
out much faster than a correctly adjusted one.
Adjust the brush carefully, only a little at a time. If the brush is set too low it will
consume unnecessarily power from the loader and the brushes will wear out much
faster than usual.
Never put any part of your body under the brush, while the brush is elevated.
When the brush is equipped with a collector box the plate in front of the brush needs
to be adjusted whenever the brushing height is adjusted. If the plate is not adjusted
when the brushing height is lowered the plate will wear out very quickly. And if it is
not adjusted when the brushing height is increased the collector will not collect the
dirt properly.
Picture 4
The brush loses peripheral speed, when it wears out. This is why the brush does
not throw the dirt to the collector properly, when it wears out.
When a brush is too worn out it needs to be changed to a new one to restore the
original brushing qualities.
10
The front lip of the collector should also be adjusted when the brush wears out. The
lip should be adjusted so, that when the collector box is completely shut the front lip
should almost touch the brush. When the lip is as close as possible to the brush you
achieve the best possible collecting result.
Picture 5
7. Make sure that the brushes do not rotate against the front lip of the collector
box when it is closed.
