Topic: The populations of many countries are increasing rapidly. Explain

what problems this trend may cause, and suggest some possible solutions.

Overpopulation is a perennial issue during the centuries in many countries and

seems to be exacerbated over the course of time. The phenomenon has bred tons

of adverse effects, yet measures could certainly be taken to combat with it.

First and foremost, as …, there are 2 principal repercussions (hậu quả) that can be

anticipated.

First and foremost, as… there are … possible culprits that are attributed to this

phenomenon.

However, there are various steps/ solution can be taken to tackle these problems.

with the booming populations, most countries in the world are confronted by

serious traffic snarl. A prime example is Beijing. Having made rapid advances in

science and technology, Bejing’s residents are still enduring severe traffic jams

partly due to the large population of around 20 million. One of the most typical

cases is the 60-mile blockage in 2010 requiring 11 days to unsnarl. Due to traffic

congestion, a considerable portion of working hours are wasted on streets, which has

serious repercussions (hậu quả) for the economy and unwittingly (vô tình, không

chủ ý) damages the overall environment. This problem could be alleviated by the

closer cooperation between individuals and the bureaucracy. As an individual,

people should utilize the shared car service such as Zipcar or My Private Driver as

transportation. Additionally, it is suggested that people take public transit so as to

minimize the number of vehicles traveling on roads. For authority, there should be

several innovative (đổi mới, sáng tạo) schemes (course of action, kế hoạch) such

as downtown bus network improvement, traffic terminals expansion or subway

construction.

In addition, by virtue of the tremendous growth of the population, the poverty is

aggravated. The population grows means that more and more people are entering

the workforce. As a result, employment opportunities increasingly require higher

levels of skills; thus, more and more unemployed people live in misery. To tackle

this issue, governments should establish funds for the poor and make sure that they

can get affordable cost of living. Furthermore, it is necessary to redesign the income

mechanism such as taxes management or social welfare system to mitigate the

distribution gap.

In conclusion, traffic congestion and poverty are the most typical problems which

are attributed to overpopulation. They require constant efforts to be tackled from

both individuals and government. With the attempt of authorities to alleviate birth

rates, the situation will definitely be positively transformed.
