Contoh Investigation Report Project 1

This project aims to automatically control home appliances like fans and lights using sensors to reduce electricity bills. It uses PIR and temperature sensors so that fans turn on when people are present and the temperature exceeds 27°C. Users can enable or disable sensors via a menu on an LCD display controlled by a rotary encoder. If no one is detected, appliances will automatically turn off. The system is designed and programmed using Arduino to save energy when homes are unoccupied.

1.0 SYNOPSIS

Summary not more than 200 words

This project is designed and engineered to save energy usage at home. The concept used in this project
is to automatically turn on home fans and lamps only when it is used. In this case if the person leaves
the house, his home appliances automatically turns off. This is because the fans and lamps have its
own sensors. The fans and lamps both use IR sensors and the fans alone also has its own temperature
sensors. The IR sensors sense if there is a person in the house or in a room or not, if there is a person,
the fans and lamps automatically turn on. The person itself can set if he wants the lamps automatically
turn on or not, because during daytime they surely don’t want their lamps to turn on. For the fans, the
IR sensors sense a person like usual, and the fan’s temperature sensor in this case, it senses the room
temperature. If the room temperature is more than 27 degrees Celsius, the fans or even any cooler
automatically turns on for cooling the room.

2.0 PROBLEM STATEMENTS

5.0 FACT FINDING (BASIC LITERATURE REVIEW)

1. Arduino menu with rotary encoder

In the display a simple menu appears, and with the help of the rotary encoder the user can navigate
up, or down and select a menu item by pressing the rotary encoder button. When the middle button
of the rotary encoder is pressed, another screen appears and the user can change the value of a
variable. If the user presses the rotary encoder button once more, it goes back to the main menu
screen. The menu has 6 items, and the user can scroll down or up the menu and the items on the
display will change accordingly.

2. PIR sensor with Arduino & LED

Infrared technology addresses a wide variety of wireless applications. The main areas are sensing
and remote controls. In the electromagnetic spectrum, the infrared portion is divided into three
regions: near infrared region, mid infrared region and far infrared region. The PIR sensor sends
instruction to the Arduino motherboard and then decides to light up the LED or not.

3. Temperature based fan control

In this project, the main item is a temperature sensor, Arduino, and a mini axial fan 12V.Basically
what it does is when the temperature sensor senses the surrounding temperature is higher than it
expected (which is set in the system), it triggers the instruction and turns on the mini axial 12V fan.
This is because the temperature sensor is used to sense the surrounding’s temperature, if it is higher
than its expected value, the input will be 1, if it’s not it will be 0 which there will be no instruction
sent.

Figure 1.0 : The Flowchart of proposed project

This project is about an “Automatic home appliances device”. The way it operates is when a person
starts to walk in a room of some area where this sensor is located, the PIR sensor will send an
instruction to the Arduino motherboard to light up the lamp and turn on the fan. The fan of the house
is also equipped with a temperature sensor so it doesn’t only trigger when there is a person nearby.
But it will also trigger when the temperature of the area is higher than it expected. By that way it will
turn on the fan and cool down the area. The person also can set the system using the rotary encoder
and the Nokia 5110 menu to enable or disable some sensors in the house.

8.0 PROVIDE A CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

In conclusion, this “Automatic home appliances device is used to save electrical energy of a
house. Other than that, the user also saves money from less paying the electricity bill. In
addition, the wires in the concrete walls also does not get faulty very quickly because this
smart device will make the electrical device in the house operates only when its used and turn
off automatically when there no one home. User also don’t have to remember either they
switched off the lamps and fans or not because this device does it for the user. This device
does not require any internet or WIFI so it is safe from malfunctioning and lagging. This
device gives a positive impact to the household and even the world.
