Computer Fundamentals Assignment-1
Computer Fundamentals Assignment-1
Ans.-1 The term ‘computer’ is derived from the word ‘compute’, which means to calculate. A
computer can be defined as an electronic device which processes the input and displays the desired
output. The computers process data at an extremely fast rate. The speed of a computer is
calculated in MHz (Megahertz), that is, one million instructions per second. The computers can
store large amounts of data and it can recall the required information almost instantaneously.
Computers are accurate because the computers are capable of doing only what they are
instructed to do, so faulty data for processing automatically lead to a faulty result. The
measurement of the performance of computers are accurate. A computer can automatically
perform operations without interfering the user during the operations. It can automatically
control different devices attached with the computer.
First Generation Computers : These computers were from 1942-1955. In these computers
used vacuum tubes for circuitry and magnetic drums for memory. These computers are
relied on binary coded language to perform operations. Capable of solving one problem
at a time. They were very large in size and required a lot of space for installation. These
computers lacked in speed. Since machine language was used, these computers were
difficult to program and use.
Second Generation Computers: These computers were from 1955 to 1964. In these
vacuum tubes were replaced by transistors which are made up of semiconductor material
like germanium and silicon. The size of transistor is small, so the size of the computers
was greatly reduced. These computers used magnetic cores as primary memory and
magnetic disks as secondary storage devices. Computers became smaller, faster, cheaper,
and more reliable.
Third Generation Computers : These computers were from 1965 to 1974. The greatest
development of the third generation was integrated circuit called IC. It consisted of a
single chip with the components like transistors and resistors, fabricated on it. The
development of the transistors helped decrease the size of the computers. Now the user
started interacting through keyboard and monitors. The computers became smaller and
cheaper and hence became popular.
Fourth Generation Computers : These computers started from 1975 and are used till now.
These computer uses microprocessor as their basic processing device, it is built on a
single piece of silicon called chip. The computers became smaller in size and cheaper.
During this period computers became more popular to the mass.
Fifth Generation Computers : The goal of these computers is to develop devices that
respond to natural language input and will have the capability of learning and self-
organization. These computers use artificial intelligence and knowledge-based problem-
solving techniques. Currently these computers are used in the field of medicine,
treatment, monitoring, but on a very small scale.
Ques.-2 Find out the hexadecimal equivalent of the binary number (0010010100) 2. Convert (6532)8
to hexadecimal using shortcut method.
Ans.-2 First the binary number will be converted into decimal (0010010100) 2 = (?)10
00100101002= 0*29+ 0*28+ 1*27+ 0*26+ 0*25+ 1*24+ 0*23+ 1*22+ 0*21+ 0*20
00100101002= 0+0+128+0+0+16+0+4+0+0
(0010010100)2= (148)10
Octa decimal 65328 to hexadecimal. For that first we have to convert it into binary number using the
table.
Ques.-3 Explain the steps to add transitions and animation effects to presentation. Prepare a report
card in MS Excel of 5 subjects of 15 students and find out the percentage of each student and
average of the class.
1. Click on View tab -> presentation views -> Click on the Slide Sorter icon.
2. Slides will be displayed in the slide sorter view. This view makes it easy to select, organize
and manipulate individual slides
3. Select the individual slide that you want to apply the transitions to from the slide
sorter view.
4. Click on Animations tab > transition to these slides. Click on the drop-down arrow of
the gallery. A drop-down menu appears with all the various types of transitions.
5. Select the desired transitions. The transitions are applied to the selected slides. A live
preview is available each time a transition is selected.
If you want to apply transitions to all the slides, click on the Apply to all icons
The steps to add animations to the slide :
1. Click on View tab > Presentation views select normal view.
2. Click on the Animations tab on the ribbon.
3. On the slide, click on the element that you would like to apply animation. The selected
element is enclosed in a rectangular box.
4. Under animations, click on the Animate. A user can select from one of the options.
5. Alternately, a user can define their own animation by clicking on the custom
animation icon in animations.
6. When a user clicks on the custom animation icon, a task pane appears on the right-hand
side of the window.
7. Click on the Add Effect button. A user is presented with multiple options.
8. A user must specify additional parameters such as directions, speed, start option.
