 The world today is beset with tremendous challenges due to the

Academic institutions faced a paradigm shift in the delivery of instructions to
address the current educational landscape in order to provide quality education
even with no face-to-face interaction in school. Every learning institution tries to
develop flexible learning modalities that will address students’ needs in the “New
Normal” set-up.
This is where technology sets in. This technology that we depend on has
a variety of software applications that can be utilized to manage academic
interfacing especially among students with internet connectivity. Once the
learners are already capacitated with the knowledge on the basic tools in the
computer including its system, learners can already use these tools for their
various academic endeavor. Therefore, it is high time to understand a computer
and its system.
A computer system is defined as a combination of components to
process data and store files.

COMPUTER SYSTEM
HARDWARE SOFTWARE
It is a system that requires hardware, software and a user to fully function
to achieve better performance. Application software, or simply applications, are
often called productivity programs or end-user programs because they enable
the user to complete tasks, such as creating documents, spreadsheets,
databases and publications, doing online research, sending email, designing
graphics, running businesses, and even playing games!

Its specific task is for design which can be as simple as a calculator

application or as complex as a word processing application. When you begin
creating a document, the word processing software has already set the margins,
font style and size, and the line spacing for you. But you can change these
settings, and you have many more formatting options available. For example,
the word processor application makes it easy to add color, headings, and
pictures or delete, copy, move, and change the document's appearance to suit
your needs.
 Among the common basic tools (software) in the computer utilized in the
academic realm are the following:

MICROSOFT WORD
It is a software that allows users to create, edit and print documents. Microsoft
Word is a popular word-processing application that is included in the software
suite of applications called Microsoft Office. A software suite is a group of
software applications with related functionality. For example, office software
suites might include word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and
email applications.

MICROSOFT EXCEL
It is an electronic spread sheet that allows users to organize, format and
calculate data/formula using a spread system. It is considered as general-
purpose calculating. It is a tool that looks like a large piece of paper that has
been marked off into rows and columns to form grid. This can be also utilized in
research raw data outputs and statistics related information. Among other
features of spread sheets are for; mathematical functions, format text labelling
or alignment of numbers. Another feature is its graphing capability, the will
produce a graph of the data in the highlighted cells.

MICROSOFT POWERPOINT
It is a complete presentation graphic program that allows one to a professional-
looking presentation which is commonly used by teachers and students in
making reports and classroom oral reporting presentation. It is sometimes
called, Slide Show.
MICROSOFT PUBLISHER
It is a desktop publishing program that can be used to create a variety of
publications which is truly helpful in most of your academic requirements. In
using this (Publisher) you can easily create business cards, greeting cards,
calendars, newsletters and much, much more.

OTHER USEFUL TOOLS FOR STUDENTS

Aside from the abovementioned basic computer tools you may use in
completing your academic requirements, the following are useful tools students
may explore for specific purposes:

Adobe Indesign
It is a desktop publishing and typesetting software application produced by
Adobe Systems. It can be used to create works such as posters, flyers,
brochures, magazines, newspapers, presentations, books and ebooks.

Adobe Photoshop
It is a software application for image editing and photo retouching for use on
Windows or MacOS computers. Photoshop offers users the ability to create,
enhance, or otherwise edit images, artwork, and illustrations.

PowerDirector
It is a reliable application that comes with robust video editing functionalities
and tools. The program enables users to import, edit and export cutting edge
footage like ultra HD 4K video resolution. It provides multiple out-of-the-box
ways to create impressive video projects.
