(RE)DESIGN
DR. WILL KURLINKUS |  DIGITAL DESIGN

Assignment Description
In this assignment you will choose a small-scale website (preferably a local small business

with a bad website or an entity that has a Facebook group but no website) and (re)design 4

of its pages (1 homepage and 3 internal pages) to increase usability. On Thursday, 2.21,
you will come to class with your website folder, in working condition, which will include an

images folder, four HTML files, and one CSS file. Also in that folder you must include a

designer’s statement (created in Canva) describing how and why you created your website

with usability and design standards in mind.

1. Functionality & Use 50%

Does this website allow users to quickly get to the stated tasks at hand?
Does this website make the user “think”?
Does this website work: are there broken links? Broken images? Etc.
Does this website include the two accessible code requirements: alt text on images and

tabindexes (always zero).

Is this website clearly designed with a specific set of users in mind?

2. Interactivity, Design, Beauty 30%

Do at least 3 of 4 pages of the website have some kind of interactive element that aids

in use: A media player? A social media account? A form? A map? A slideshow?

Is the use of color on this website judicious? Not too many colors working against one

another. High contrast text. Colors themed for a purpose.

Is there an appropriate amount of whitespace and margin?
Is there not too much or too little on the page in general?
Is the website beautiful, strong, bold, or whatever standard of good looking the user

expects?
