FI PS Integration Points

SAP Project Systems (PS) module integrates project management with other SAP applications like FICO. PS ensures business processes are efficient and projects are tracked for budgeting, timesheets, costs from other departments and providers. PS is subordinate to FICO as a cost planner and collector, with project objects like WBS relying on actual expenditures managed through the chart of accounts in Finance. Customizing is required to integrate PS and FICO, including setting up cost elements for project activities and networks, costing sheets, and settlement profiles for allocation, sources and project assessment structures. Commitment items are also configured for cash flow.

SAP FICO - SAP PS Integration------->

SAP Project systems module (SAP PS) is an integrated project management tool that
monitors all aspects of your project system and other SAP application components.
SAP PS ensures that organization's business process are to be handled efficiently
and quickly.

The scenario for this integration consists of a project-oriented department of a

large company or division (for example: the IT department) that manages projects
via a number of Excel sheets or stand-alone applications for project management or
timesheet management. The corporate SAP system is used for procurement on the
project level. A controller manually collects data from various sources, performs
budget checks and elaborates management reports.
In this scenario, PO will become the main source for project management related
information and handle areas including project tracking, budget tracking, timesheet
management and absence management. Using this information, PO will be able to
perform budget checks and to create management reports.
However, in order to deliver precise data, PO is lacking information about:
Timesheet (SAP CATS) costs from other departments
Costs of external providers
Project related costs of purchasing hardware or software

-->PS is a subcomponent of FICO, to be precise an integral part of Controlling. You

can think of PS as a superficial structure below which all cost flows as they
happen in FICO.
--> As PS is primarily a Cost Planner and Cost Collector and therefore a slave to
FI/CO, its primary objects (WBS and Network) rely on actual expenditure to manage
Account Determination, which is really the Chart of Accounts. Ultimately, all costs
end up somewhere in Finance.
Also the Planning on WBS is also done by WBS by cost element.
--> when costs are posted against a project object say WBS or network activities,
these are debits are against a cost element assigned to project objects. The cost
element is created as part of FI chart of accounts. For a P/L account a cost
element is created for debits to project objects like WBS, networks. As the costs
are posted on cost elements the FICO reports can pick these up. If a WBS has a
profit center assigned and PCA is switched on then a statistical posting is also
passed on to the profit center.
Note:- WBS element :- Work Breakdown Structure) element is a cost objective in SAP
that collects expenses and revenues related to sponsored projects. WBS elements are
both research and fund accounts.
Projects often include several WBS elements forming a WBS hierarchy.

In following customization PS-FICO integration is required.

1.Network Profile (OPUU) - Cost elements for Activities

2.Costing Sheet

3.Settlement Profile
- Allocation Structure
- Source Structure
- PA Structure
4.Commitment Items for Cashflow
