PROJECT PROPOSAL
V. Rationale:
Learning to read is one of the most important educational outcomes of primary education. The
ability to read is fundamental to children’s learning, including their development of broader literacy skills,
and to their future successful participation in society, including the workforce.
In support of the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program, the Department of
Education (DepEd) is continuously fulfilling its mandate to produce productive and responsible citizens
equipped with essential competencies and skills for lifelong learning. To make every learner a proficient
reader, schools across the country are tasked to help learners develop their reading skills.
IHS continuously support the DepEd Program on 3Bs by creating its own reading program to help in
achieving its purpose to make every learner a proficient reader.
Reading supports a wide range of words and build vocabularies to improve comprehension skills. It is
fundamental for the students’ gradual betterment and advancement. To determine the effectiveness of SLMR
(Self-Learning Module for reading) under Teacher and Parent collaboration modular, it involves the use of the
paired-reading model. The teacher will make a video recording of herself and a student performing the model.
Parents are given the video recording and a short list of instructions. The results could be promising as well as
developing a deeper bonding for the parent and the child.
