VI. Make 3 factual questions, 1 inference question, and 1 referential question for the short
text below. (20 pts)
The green building movement is changing the way buildings are constructed. This movement
started in the 1970s, as people began to see that modern life was destroying the environment
we all share. In the early years, green builders were a small minority, and their goals of
reducing the environmental impact of buildings were considered unrealistic. Now, however,
the green building movement is growing, as builders have been able to take advantage of new
technology and as the costs of this technology have gone down.

FURTHER EDUCATION

Around the age of eighteen you must make one of the biggest decisions of your
life. Do I stay on at school and hopefully go on to university later? Do I leave and start
work and begin a training course? The decision is yours, but it may be worth
remembering two things: there’s more unemployment among people who haven’t been to
university, and people who have a big advantage in the competition for jobs.

If you decide to go straight into a job, there are many opportunities for training.
Getting qualifications will help you to get on more quickly in many careers, and evening
classes allow you to learn while you earn. Starting work and taking a break to study
when you’re older is another possibility. This way, you can save up money for your
student days, as well as getting practical work experience.

produce a surplus of food beyond the immediate needs of daily subsistence.

- With the rapid growth of the world’s population, the rising demand for water by industry, and
the serious pollution of our surroundings, the world is facing the danger of running out of fresh
water.

- The grief over losing a connection can feel singularly painful, causing kids to wallow in
rejection and parents to worry, but there are steps parents can take to ease this very natural, if
painful, part of growing up.

In the early 1800’s, over 80 percent of the United States labor force was engaged in
agriculture. Sophisticated technology and machinery were virtually nonexistent.
