At the end of the discussion, the students are expected to

1. Identify the different signs, signals and barricades used in the safety of construction
workers
2. Create signs, signals and barricades.
3. Appreciate the value of signs, signals and barricades used in the safety of construction
workers.

Good Afternoon Class.

Class, before you take your seat. Kindly pick all


the pieces of paper under your chair and
arranged it properly.
A.3. Checking of Attendance

Ms. Secretary, please check the attendance for


today and give it to me after the discussion.

B. Review

Class, last meeting we discussed about ‘The


Working Station’, right?

Okay, then what are the importance of 5S? Yes

Sir it is the integrated concept of action,
condition and culture.

Very Good. We also discussed the 5S used in the


working station, what are those again? Yes

So class before we move on to our next topic, I

the signs so he tend to encounter those
hazards.
D. Presentation

Our topic for today is all about ‘Signs, Signals


and Barricades”. DO you have any idea about the
topic? Yes Kaye.
Sir it deals with signs that we usually see
everywhere.

Very good. Can you give an example of sign that


you already see? Yes John Michael.
Sir exit sign.

Very good. Before I introduce those signs, let me


quickly define about the importance of signs,
signals and barricades. It is for the safety of
construction workers. Also, it should be visible at
all times when work is being performed. Do you
have any idea about the topic? Yes Majesty. Sir I think the topic was all about the signs
that might help us.

Very good. Then let’s start to the first sign which


is the ‘Danger Signs’. Please read Norelyn.
Danger signs shall be used only where an
immediate hazard exists.

Okay! As you noticed, danger signs is a must to


the workplace that immediate hazards exists. In
order to see the signs, it should be read as the
predominant color for the upper panel, outline on
the borders; and a white lower panel for
additional text. Have you already seen a signs like
this? Yes Sir.

Where do you usually see this kind of signs? Yes

The exit signs class are very important to those


workplace/place like hotel, company, mall and the
like because when hazards or emergency arises

Signs’. Can you read the definition? Yes Lysa.
Safety Instructions Signs, when used, shall
be with green upper panel with white letters
to convey the principal message. Any
additional text on the sign shall be black
letters on the white background.

Okay. I want you to pay attention about the


definition itself, ‘convey the principal message’.
This means that very single signs represents
different colors. Just like the color green
represents for the safety of the people. Please the
next one. Yes Kaiser. Directional Signs shall be white with a black
panel and white directional symbol. Any
text on the sign shall be black letters on the
white background.

Exactly! The directional signs represents the signs


of the workplace. But unlike other signs, the
directional should have black panel and white
directional symbol. Have you already see a
directional signs?

Where do you usually see these signs? Yes

Sir in the street, malls and pathways.

Good observation. The next one is the ‘Traffic


Signs’ construction areas shall be posted with
legible traffic signs at hazardous areas. All traffic
control signs or devices used for protection of
construction workers shall conform to OSHA
standards. I have here some pictures for to really
see the image.

What do you observed? Yes Jayvee. Sir we already saw those signs in the street
specifically in the highways.

Very good. In addition, this signs class are


already conformed to the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration standards. The second to
the last signs are Accident Prevention Tags.

Accident Prevention Tags shall be used as
temporary means of warning of an existing
hazard such as defective tools, equipment,
etc.

Okay class. The accident prevention tags are used


as temporary means for the existing hazards. They
used this because of the defective tools,
equipment, etcetera that might cause a harm to the
workers. The last but definitely not the least are
the signaling signs and barricades. Can you please
read the definition of flagmen? Yes King. Flaggers shall use red flags, at least 18
inches square or sign paddles, and in the
dark, red lights.

Okay. As you notice the statement explain the


sign/flags that being used as well as their color.
How about the person the flagmen or commonly

already see is the barricades outside the

F. Application

Okay class, bring out 1 whole sheet of paper and


draw a sign that you commonly see in the
construction workers. Put a label of what signs it
is and their importance. Did you get it class? Yes Sir.

1. It ensures the safety of the construction workers.
