Important Guidelines for Successfully Adopting IIT JEE Study

Plan
 Avoid having multiple books and materials for the same subject in your preparation. An
IIT JEE coaching study material that covers the syllabus is usually enough.
 Remove all the distractions that can affect your studies.
 Build up equal interest for all the three PCM subjects.
 It is advisable that you don’t ‘measure’ the number of hours you study. You should
instead study with full concentration whenever you open your book for a study session.
However, as per recorded data, a minimum of 4-6 hours per day can be considered
good for JEE preparation.
 Have a clear understanding of the concepts so that it will become easier to solve the
different types of questions in the exam.
 Try to incorporate problem-solving in your daily study session. Only covering the theory
will not be enough. Try to come up with or reach the solution in the fastest time.
 If there are any, try applying simple tricks in solving problems. Always focus on
balancing speed and accuracy.
 Make notes of important terms, formulas, and reactions. Try to include your own
shortcuts and tricks.
 Have all past year’s JEE questions and start solving them.
 Attempt mock tests as it will help you get a clear idea of the exam, the question paper
pattern, types of questions, difficulty level and more.
 Always analyse your performance and especially your mistakes. Once you identify the
weak areas, work on improving them for the next round.
 Consistency is to be maintained.
 Another important aspect is to include a specific revision slot in your JEE study
schedule.
 Clear your doubts and questions at the earliest. Take help from teachers, mentors and
even your friends.

Important Topics For JEE Math Section

So let’s start topic wise and discuss what they can contribute to an applicant’s attempts to crack the IIT
JEE examination:
1. Algebra: No other topic can come close to Algebra in the simplicity and ability to shell out easily
obtainable marks in the JEE Examination. What is required from the applicants is to have high
computational speed and clarity about their basic concepts? Algebra is also considered as one of the
most interesting topics and thus clarity of concepts plus good calculation speed is enough to score
outstanding marks from this topic. Some of the major areas that an applicant should cover in algebra are
as follows:

 Differential Equations
 Probability
 Complex Numbers
 Permutation and Combination
 Quadratic Equations and Expressions
 Matrices and Determinants
 Progressions and Series
 Binomial Theorem
 Sets, Relations, and Functions
2. Calculus: It is among the largest section of modern mathematics and is considered as one of the key
topics for IIT JEE preparation, Calculus has two main sections. Differential and Integral Calculus,
associated with the fundamental theory of calculus. It deals with studying operations and applying them to
equation solving. Problems that have their base in theory as well as problems that have their base in
application show equal appearance in JEE Maths section.
Differential Calculus:

 Limits and Continuity

 Application of Derivatives
 Differentiation
Integral Calculus:

 Indefinite Integral
 Definite Integral
 Area under Curves
3. Coordinate Geometry:
One other necessary constituent of the math section in JEE Exams is coordinate geometry. Other
entrance examinations, as well as IIT JEE, consider it as one of the most scorable subjects and if
explained in the most basic sense it is the analysis of geometrical shape. This is also one of the only
topics in which you can secure full marks. As it is a huge topic some of the major sections of it are:

 Straight Lines
 Parabola
 Hyperbola
 Circle
 Ellipse
Most of the math problems are frequently created using the topics of Straight lines and circles. These
sections when coupled with each other contribute a lot of questions to the JEE examination and are a
prerequisite to conic sections as well.
4. Trigonometry:
A crucial branch of maths in the IIT JEE exam is Trigonometry. Some of the essential areas of
trigonometry are trigonometric ratios and trigonometric functions. To clear the examination, applicants
should be extremely clear about their fundamentals of trigonometry as many competitive exams ask
numerous questions from this topic. The sides and angles of a triangle are related and this relationship is
studied under the branch of trigonometry. A lot of branches of technology and science have their bases in
a trigonometric functions. The IIT JEE Trigonometry problems range from the trigonometry basics to the
applications of trigonometry.

Study Tips For JEE Chemistry

 First, evaluate the topics and course work. There are a few traditional topics that will have a place
in your coursework, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical or theoretical chemistry,
analytical chemistry, and biochemistry.
 Familiarize yourself with the basics of all topics.
 Math is essential for most subjects, including chemistry. There’s no way to escape this; hence
perfecting it is necessary.
 Chemistry tends to progress from basics and keeps building on to get more complex. Ensuring a
sound foundation is a must.
 Then comes the tricky part, learn and memorize around 40 most commonly used elements from
the table and the diatomic molecules from the periodic table.
 Try and keep your interest alive by relating it to everyday life. Next time you go to the
pharmaceutical store, actually look at the contents and try to place them.
 Read each topic at least 4-5 times and make sure you’re extremely familiar with it. This will take
time; hence prepare well in advance. You can always alternate between a comparatively easy
chapter and a difficult one.
 Make sure you maintain a healthy lifestyle since the preparations will, either way, take a toll on
you; it becomes essential that you stay healthy.
 Follow one book as the guide and stick to it even if you sometimes venture to other guide books
occasionally. Make use of trusted books like Morrison Boyd and Solomons for organic chemistry.
 Do review your errors and make sure not to repeat them.
 Take practice tests to build your confidence, but at the same time, do not feel disheartened if the
results are not as expected.
 Most importantly, stay positive.

JEE Physics Preparation Tips

 Select the Best and Right Study Materials

There are many study materials available online and on the market. But, it is your responsibility to select
the books which have a clear explanation of the concepts. HC Verma, Concepts of Physics, Vol I and II,
and books by D.C Pandey are some of the standard books referred by the students along with NCERT
books.

 Practice Problems Everyday

Many students find the numerical questions in Physics complicated. These questions are given a lot of
importance in the JEE, therefore, you have to practice problems every day without fail. Solve all the
NCERT example problems without skipping any of them. After completing the NCERT problems, take up
previous year question paper problems and solve them to get a better understanding of the type of
questions that are asked in the exam.

 Always Start with the Basics
NCERT books (11th and 12th standard) must be given a lot of importance during the exam preparation.
You will be able to solve complicated problems from the reference books, once you get a stronghold of
basics. NCERT books explain the basic concepts of all the chapters and it is a standard book that needs
to be studied by all the students.

 Spend Extra Time on Topics that Carry More Marks

The JEE pattern and syllabus reveals the subject wise weightage given to each chapter every year.  By
learning the syllabus and pattern, you will understand the chapters that contain more and fewer marks.
Spend more time on these chapters and cover them first. Later, you can take up the chapters which carry
comparatively fewer marks.

 Solve Various Types of Problems

You have to be versatile in order to solve the Physics problems comfortably. Do not just solve one type of
problem every day, keep referring to different sources. Take mock tests from different online sources that
provide you with exposure to a wide range of problems.

 Prepare Flashcards
In order to solve the numerical problems, you will have to memorise many formulas and key concepts. It
can be a complicated task for most of the students. A solution for this would be to write all the important
formulas on sticky notes or flashcards. Stick these flashcards or notes on the table or mirror where you
can see it every day. Keep looking at it every once in a while so that you do not forget any of them.
