THE DIVINE NATURE OF JESUS

NAMES OF GOD

In Matthew's gospel Jesus is called Immanuel . Jesus is God with us in every way. If
you want to get to know the names of Jesus, just get to know the names of
God, because Jesus is the fulfillment of every name of God. And He has come as
Immanuel, “God with us,” in order to reveal God to us.

Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and they shall call his name
Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us"(Matthew 1:23).

This is not a personal name. In Isaiah 7:14 it is seen as fulfilled, not in the naming of
Jesus, but in the whole account of His origin and naming. It is not that Jesus ever bore
the name Immanuel but that it indicates His role, bringing God's presence to man.
God Is With Us Because Of Jesus

Matthew's use of this term may be understood in one of two ways.

1. The phrase "God is with us" describes the nature of Jesus. He is God who
has become a human.
2. The virgin conception was not something new, but that it had been predicted
by the prophet Isaiah. God is now with the people to save them as the
prophets have predicted.
Therefore "God is with us" would not so much describe the exact nature of Jesus, but
rather that God has been gracious to His people by sending His Messiah.

When the conception of Jesus was announced to Joseph the angel told him that a son
would be born who would be called Immanuel - God with us. The phrase may be
emphasizing the truth of the gospel that God became a human being in Jesus Christ.
Matthew is emphasizing that God was faithful to His promises in sending the Messiah
to His people .

God Is With Us Because Of Jesus is a comforting promise in Scripture is that God

will never leave those who are His. Hebrews 13:5 says, in part, “He Himself has said, ‘I
will never leave you nor forsake you’” (NKJV). In a world that is constantly changing
and where people are constantly leaving, whether in a family, relationship, or in death,
God’s promise of never leaving is encouraging.

The promise “I will never leave you nor forsake you” was first given to Israel and
Joshua before entering the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 31:6). Encouragingly, Moses
reminded Joshua that, as the succeeding leader, “the Lord himself goes before you and
will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be
2

discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:8). Joshua’s task of taking the Promised Land seemed
impossible, but with the Lord the task was possible, for He would not forsake Joshua.

Jesus is Lord and is the Best Name

A Good Name
1A good name is more desirable than great riches; favor is better than silver and
gold. 2The rich and the poor have this in common: The LORD is Maker of them all.…

 In Jesus´name we are delivered:

Acts 7:10
And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the
sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his
house.

His loving favour is upon us : favour is better than silver and gold.  "Favour" may
signify the grace which wins love, as well as the favour gained thereby.

Ecclus. 41:12, "Have regard to thy name , for that shall continue with thee above a
thousand great treasures of gold. A good life," the moralist continues, "hath but few
days; but a good name endureth forever"  Proverbs 10:7). And loving favour rather
than silver and gold; or, more accurately, and before gold and silver grace is
good; a good name is so valuable because it wins affection and friendship, which are
far preferable to material riches,
ACTS OF DIVINITY

Santification

We are called to be Holy in Jesus and bring healing to the people around us through
their sanctification.

Acts 18:8
Crispus, the synagogue leader, and his whole household believed in the Lord. And
many of the Corinthians who heard the message believed and were baptized.

Romans 1:7
To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:28
And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him,
who are called according to His purpose.

1 Corinthians 6:11

And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you
were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

What the Apostle urges is, that as they washed themselves in the waters of baptism,
so we, by the power of Christ's name and the Holy Spirit, become holy and righteous.

By "sanctified" is meant, not the progressive course of sanctification, but

the consecration to God by baptism Romans 3:24-26.) In the Name of the Lord Jesus
of our God. In the word "our" is involved that appeal to Christian unity of which he
never loses sight .

Hebrews 10:10

By that will, we are having been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus
Christ once for all.

Hebrews 2:14
Now since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that
by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil,

INDWELLING

Ephesians 3:17

16I ask that out of the riches of His glory He may strengthen you with power through
His Spirit in your inner being, 17so that Christ may
dwell in your hearts through faith. Then you, being
rooted and grounded in love, 18will have power, together with all the saints, to
comprehend the length and width and height and depth…

Romans 8:9
You, however, are controlled not by the flesh, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God
lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to
Christ.

Romans 8:10
But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because
of righteousness.

Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I
now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself
for me.

Romans 3:22
And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.
There is no distinction,

The idea is something more than that of merely "dying with Christ"-- i: it involves,
besides, a special reference to the cross. It is through the power of the cross, through
contemplating the cross and all that is associated with it, that the Christian is enabled
to mortify the promptings of sin within him, and reduce them to a state of passiveness
like that of death. This death unto sin, death upon one side of my nature, does not
hinder me from having life upon another side. The fact is that I live in a truer sense
than ever before. No longer the old natural man in me that lives: it is not that part of
the human personality which has its root in matter, and is "of the earth, earthy," but
that part which is re-formed by the Spirit of Christ.
