1. Calculate the density of water vapour at 350 kPa absolute and 20 oC if its gas
constant is 0.462 kPa-m3 /kg- oK

2. Air is kept at a pressure of 200 kPa and a temperature of 30 oC in a 500 liter

container. What is the mass of the air?

3. Benzene at 20 oC has a viscosity of 0.000651 Pa-sec. What shear stress is required

to deform this fluid at a strain rate of 4900 s -1 ?

4. A shaft 70 mm in diameter is being pushed at a speed of 400 mm/sec through a

bearing sleeve 70.2 mm in diameter and 250 mm long. The clearance assumed
uniform, is filled with oil at 20 oC with v = 0.005 m2/sec and sp. gr. = 0.9. find the
force exerted by the oil in the shaft.

5. For the manometer shown, determine the pressure difference between A and B,
pA – pB.

6. A closed cylindrical tank contains 2 meters of water, 3 meters of oil (s = 0.82) and
the air above oil has a pressure of 30 kPa. If an open mercury manometer at the
bottom of the tank has 1 meter of water, determine the deflection of mercury, y in
mm.

7. An open tube is attached to a tank as shown. If water rises to a height of 800 mm

in the tube, what are the pressures pA and pB of the air in kPa above water.
Neglect capillary effects in the tube.
8. The semi-circular gate shown, is hinged at B. determine the force F in lbs
required to hold the gate in position.

9. In the figure shown, the gate AB rotates about an axis through B. the gate width is
1.2 meters. A torque T is applied to the shaft through B. determine the torque T
in kN-m to keep the gate close.

GOD BLESS !!!
