INT.

SUBURBAN STREET - NIGHT

JARED DAL SANTO (mid-20s) stumbles down the footpath. He’s

drunk, or otherwise inebriated, and a little roughed-up from
a fight or another altercation of some kind.

THOMAS (V.O.)
What happened?

INT. DINER - NIGHT

Jared sits with THOMAS DAL SANTO (early-30s). They each nurse
a cup of coffee that neither of them drink. Jared can’t seem
to look Thomas in the eye, so he looks anywhere else.

THOMAS
Jared?

JARED
Yeah?

THOMAS
You ok?

JARED
Yeah.

THOMAS
Ok, I just-- I’d like you to tell
me what happened last night. Ok?

CUT TO:

EXT. SUBURBAN STREET - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

A quick flash of screeching tires against bitumen, white

smoke building and billowing, rubber tearing, screeching...

CUT BACK TO:

INT. DINER - NIGHT

JARED
Yeah-- uh, yeah-- I dunno...

THOMAS
You don’t know?

Jared shrugs and looks away, non-commital and evasive. Thomas

closes his eyes in frustration, tries to compose himself.
2.

THOMAS (CONT'D)
Ok. Ok, uh-- y’know you have to
talk to me, yeah?

JARED
We are talking.

THOMAS
You know what I mean.

Jared fiddles with his cutlery. Thomas leans forward, trying

to catch his eye, trying to connect.

THOMAS (CONT'D)
Look, man, I can’t justify being
here if you’re not going to talk to
me. I can’t help you if I don’t
know what’s going on.

JARED
(sighs)
I dunno what to tell you, Tom.

THOMAS
The truth? I’d say the truth would
be a good place to start.

Jared looks away again, entirely guarded. Thomas leans back

in his chair and watches Jared, thinking, waiting.

THOMAS (CONT'D)
If you’re scared, or embarrassed,
or worried about what I’m going to
think, then--

JARED
That’s not it.

THOMAS
Ok. Ok...

Thomas waits expectantly for Jared to continue, but he just

sits there, staring down at the table. A streak of blood has
begun oozing from a cut above Jared’s eyebrow. Thomas grabs a
few napkins and hands them to Jared who starts dabbing his
face.

THOMAS (CONT'D)
You need to get that stitched up.

JARED
It’s fine.
3.

THOMAS
No, it isn’t. Nothing about this
situation is fine.
