Verb pattern in english. What happened when two verbs are put together in a sentence.

A- I enjoy travel
Verb Nº1 Verb Nº2

B- I need Study.
Verb Nº1 Verb Nº2

These sentences aren`t correct. You should transform the second verb. We focus on the
transformation of those verb appearing in the second positions.

The right option will be:

A- I enjoy travelling.
B- I need to study.

How can I know when the second verb need gerund or to-infinitive?

You need put your focus on verb one.

The verb number one give your information about verb number two.

Some verbs are always followed by GERUND. For example:

Enjoy. I enjoy travelling.

Avoid. Celebrities avoid answering personal questions.

Consider. Have you ever considered changing your hairstyle?

Imagine. Can you imagine being rich and living the high life?

Fancy. On cold and rainy days, I fancy Reading mistery books.

Some verbs are always followed by TO-INFINITIVE. For example:

Need. I need TO study.

Want. I want to break free.

Decide. I decided to give some money for charity.

Deserve. You deserve to be happy.

Learn. I`m learning to do my make up.

Verbs followed by GERUND and TO-INFINITIVE with no change in meaning.

Love. I love travelling

I love to travel

I hate studyoign

I hate to study

I like sleeping
I like to sleep

I dislike to clean

We normally use the gerund option to emphasize the action in general. We use the to infinitive
option to emphasize particular prreferences about that action.

I love travelling.

I love to travel in Winter. (its especific.)

I hate studying

I hate to study the day before the exam. (refers to very specific situation) Maybe i`m ok to
studying, but no the day before the exam.

I like sleeping.

I like to sleep in the afternoon.

I dislike cleaning.

I dislike to clean on beautiful summer days.

Verbs followed by GERUND and TO-INFINITIVE with TOTAL CHANGE in meaning.

Stop-

Stop drinking coffee.

Stop+ Gerund: to quit an action, not to do that anymore.

Stop to drink coffee.

Stop+ TO infinitive to pause an action to do something else.

On my way home I need to stop to buy some milk.

I should stop going to bed so late. Im very tired the next morning

You must stop eating so much junk food.

When I go running i always stop to breathe for a few minutes.

Remember+ gerund

To have a memory of a past situatuin

I remember teaching for the first time.

I remember playing with my friend as a child.

Remember+to iunfg
A task, something you have to do. Remember to wash your hand before eating

Forget+ gerund

to have the memory of a past tsituacion.

I`ll never forget travelling abroad for the first time

Did you forget meeting your best friend for the first time?

Foget + to infinitive.

Don`t forget to take your Passport..

Before the e4xam starts, don`t forget to switch your telephone off.

Regret+ gerund

To feel sorry about something that happened in the past.

I regret saying what i sayd.

I regret eating so much.

Regret+ to infinitive

Is use to use bad news.

I regret to say that you dont seem to be the person that you`re looking for.

We regret to inform you that you flight has been delated. Sorry.
