Concept Notes:

What is opinion?

✓ Is a statement that goes beyond facts.


✓ a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.
✓ the beliefs or views of a large number or majority of people about a particular thing.
✓ an estimation of the quality or worth of someone or something.

Example: If she didn’t have the operation maybe she is still alive today.

Activity 1

Direction: Identify the following statements and determine which one states an opinion.

______1. It takes me 30 minutes to walk from my home to school.

______2. Living near the school is better because we don’t have to spend much for transportation.

______3. My sister ate the piece of pizza pie.

______4. My sister is selfish because she ate the piece of pizza pie and did not share it with me.

______5. The policeman firmly pushed the suspect to his knees and placed him in handcuffs.

______6. The aggressive manner by which the policeman arrested the suspect is an example of the brutality
that characterizes our police officer

What is Truth?

✓ Truth the body of real things, events, and facts


✓ Truth lies at the heart of any inquiry
✓ Knowledge is the clear awareness and understanding of something must be truthful to gain validity
and acceptance.
✓ Facts – propositions or statements which are observed to be real or truthful.

How do we know if something is true?

✓ A belief is true if it can be justified or proven through the use of sense. (Five senses)
✓ A belief or statement is true if it is based on facts.

A belief is true if you can get a consensus or having people agree on a common belief.

Activity 1
