About this Self-Learning Kit

This kit is designed primarily to help students and teachers make informed
decisions before using materials in the classroom or in any writing endeavors across
all genres. It is composed of three essential elements namely; Glimpse, Impressions,
and Inscriptions.

In Glimpse, there is a brief and succinct discussion on how to write a news

story based on the given facts. There is also a focus on the fact that the news stories
that will be created are meant to offer readers with genuine information about current
topics or events in the globe. These should be truthful, unbiased, and informative. A
brief overview of the inverted pyramid style is provided, as well as why a strong lead
is critical when writing a news piece. Several news story pieces are also presented
as examples for students to follow and understand. As they create their first news
story in this lesson, they will learn on how to organize the given information or the
gathered facts and turn it into written work that includes unbiased writing, credible
sources, and proper structure.

GLIMPSES

Writing News Report using the Given Facts.

News reports are found in newspapers and their purpose is to inform readers
of what is happening in the world around them. News reports have a certain
structure that you need to follow. This structure is sometimes called the Inverted
Pyramid.
The Inverted Pyramid
A writer puts the most important facts at the beginning and works ‘down’ from
there. Preferably, the first paragraph should contain enough information to give the
readers a good overview of the entire story. News is written in the inverted pyramid
style – four of the essential “5W” elements usually are contained in the lead
paragraph of the news article.
