1. Executive summary
The company is a startup company venture developed for the sole
purpose of investing in the selling of pets. This business plan lays
out a simple strategy for developing a long-term of pet shop by
leveraging an initial investment of birr 50,000.

X and Y pet shop main mission is to provide pets especially dogs

which are rare bread to Ethiopia like Doberman, Tibetan mastiff,
the different types of huskies breads, Bulldog and many more dog
breads for dog lovers with a very reasonable price.
X and Y pet shop is headquartered in the city of Addis Ababa and
incorporated in the sub-city of bole. The company is a partnership
type of business. The partnership consists of 5 individuals. From
the five members two have experience in animal breading and the
rest have good marketing and management skills. Before we get
the setting up the company we have made a very intense research
about the pet selling business. Based on the research the price of
a single dog varies depending on the bread type for example the
male huskies can go up to birr 45,000 and the Doberman can be
from birr 5,000 to 10,000. We have selected a breading place out
of the city because we wanted to reduce the rental price we will
pay. In the city rent is very expensive but as you move further
from the city the price goes down and also to avoid the noise
complains we may get as dogs may bark for hours. We have some
breads on hand the get started with as we get to sell more we will
increase the diversity of the breads.
2. The business
The concept of the business is to provide very rare and good
quality dogs, cats and any other pets to the market. The main
mission or objective of this company when it start planning to
get into the business is to provide people who love pets especially
with rare breads to easily access or get. We have a supplier that
has a very good quality breed that is on hand throughout the year.
So there is no worry about the failure and shortage of supply. And
get profitable through the process. The form of ownership is a
partnership with 5 members in it. Because we have a specialist or
professionals who have good experience in pet breeding there is a
good care provided to the pets after we have acquired the pets
from our suppliers. Our customers can either take the pets when
they are little or after they are fully grown pets. The headquarters
is located in Addis Ababa bole sub-city.
3. Funding Requirement
Since we have a starting fund gathered from the owners this fund
requirement will help in the costs like health care of the pest,
employees, rental cost, and to get additional pet breads. This fund
will surely increase our profitability. We are looking for birr 25,000
to 40,000 to cover all the additional cost and for the reserve fund
which will be used in time of unexpected satiations.
4. The product
As mentioned above in the executive summary and the business
the product is rare breed pets. Our plan to beat our competitor is
by reducing the price or (price penetration) of our product as well
as we have provide the option of taking care of the pets until they
are grown fully. And we have provided the opportunity for our
customers to use our pet clinic if needed with a huge discount. As
mentioned in the business above some of the price for individual
pets ranges from 5,000 to 45,000 so we have laid a plan of a
significant change or discount in the price until we will have a firm
grip on the market.
5. The plan
Marketing plan: based on our marketing research the need for
pets in Ethiopia have increased dramatically and are willing to pay
large amount of money for a specific rare breed of pets. So we are
planning of penetrating the market through our low price
compared to other pet selling shops.
Operational plan: we have a set our HQ in the city and the
breeding area out of the city. We choose the breading area to be
out of the city because we aimed to reduce the risk of contact
with other pets with may be harmful and lead to the
contamination of disease.

Organizational plan: the five founding members (owners) of the

organization have their own role to play in the enterprise. As
stated in the executive summary the two members have a very
high experience in pet breeding so they are the head of the
breeding process. And the rest three have the following roles one
of the member manage the employees the other one is head of
financing and the last one is engaged in the promotion role.

Financial plan: our financial plan is drawn for the first two years.
We have a plan to sell an estimated of 20 to 40 pets which will
generate an income of birr 150,000 and pure profit of birr 70,000.
6. Critical risks
The main risk we have taken into consideration is that diseases
that may affect the pets significantly and may threaten the
existence of the business. We making our breading area out of the
city will help to avoid this kind of scenarios from happening
because there will be minimal contact with other animals.
Because we choose the breeding location out of the city the
transport cost may vary constantly taking the current satiation of
our country.

7. Exit strategy
The business maybe dissolved if needed by selling our all assets
and covering our debt if there is, any at the time of exiting, and
then there will be equal distribution of profit between the
owners.
8. Appendix
As the business was set to start all the owners contributed a fixed
amount of capital (10,000 each) so there is equal amount or level
of ownership major decision making will be made by all five of the
owners so this means all members have a 20% ownership.
