2 Problem Analysis
The basic logic gates are the building blocks of more complex logic circuits. These logic gates
perform the basic
Boolean functions, such as AND, OR, NAND, NOR, Inversion, Exclusive-OR, and Exclusive-
NOR. figure 1 below
shows the circuit symbol, Boolean function, and truth. It is seen from figure 1 that each gate has
one or
two binary inputs, A and B, and one binary output, C. The small circle on the output of the circuit
symbols
designates the logic complement. The AND, OR, NAND, and NOR gates can be extended to
have more than
two inputs. A gate can be opened to have multiple inputs if the binary operation it represents is
commutative
and associative.

3. Bread Board
4. Resistors: 1 kΩ – 1 nos.
5. LED’s – 1 no’s.
6. Connecting Wires.
4 Procedure
Setup the circuits shown in figure 2 to analyze the operation of the various basic logic gates. For
each gate:
1. Vary the inputs of each gate and measure the output. Do this for all possible combinations of
inputs.
2. Construct the truth table for each gate.
3. Connect Vcc= 5 volt at pin 14 on each chip
4. Connect ground is at pin 7 on each chip
5 Implementation
6 Input/Output
All the gates will verify the following truth tables.
