Module1 - Assignment - Dioquino, Myka Ella

Manual information systems differ from computer-based systems in three key ways: 1) Speed - Computer systems are much faster at handling data and producing reports. 2) Cost - While paper/pencil are cheaper initially, computer systems have ongoing software and supply costs. 3) Backup - Digital data can be easily stored and backed up, protecting against disasters, unlike paper records. The main components of a computer-based information system are: hardware, software, data, procedures, and people. Hardware includes physical devices, software are machine-readable instructions, data is the factual information, procedures control system operations, and people are crucial to the system's success. ASSIGNMENT

1. Differentiate Manual Information System to Computer-Based Information

System.
 Speed distinguishes manual from computerized systems. Accounting software handles
data faster than manual procedures. Automatic software calculations reduce errors and
boost efficiency. After inputting data, you can produce reports by hitting a button.

 Another difference is cost. Paper and pencil are cheaper than a computer and software for
computerized accounting. Training and program maintenance are other software costs.
Printers, paper, ink, and other supplies are expensive.

 Third, digital systems are more accessible to backup. In case of fire or other disasters, all
transactions can be stored and backed up. Paper records require making duplicates of all
pages, which is time-consuming and inefficient.

2. What are the components of Computer-Based Information System?

 Hardware includes the computer's CPU and all of its peripherals. Input/output, storage,
and communication are support equipment.
 Software is the application and its manual. Computer programs are machine-readable
instructions that control hardware to produce valuable data. Programs are saved on disks
or tapes.
 Data are the facts that programs employ to generate valuable information. Like programs,
data are often stored on a disk or tape until the computer requires them.
 The policies that control the operations of a computer system are procedures. The
analogy that methods are to people as software is to hardware is commonly used to
demonstrate the function of processes in a system.
 People are required for every system to be helpful. People are perhaps the most
influential factor in the success or failure of an information system, yet they are
sometimes the most neglected component.
3. What is the difference between e-commerce and m-commerce?
-The primary distinction between M-Commerce and E-Commerce is that M-Commerce refers to
conducting business via mobile devices on the Internet. In contrast, E-commerce refers to
running a business via PCs or laptops over the Internet. You can engage in M-commerce even if
you do not have access to a computer or the Internet because the Internet is accessible on mobile
devices. E-commerce is restricted to locations having access to a computer or the Internet.
