Lesson Plan in English Grade 9

I. OBJECTIVES

After the 60 –minute discussion, 80% of the students should be able to:

1. Review and define literary devices;


2. Explain literary devices used in the story “Romeo and Juliet”;
3. Create a short comic strip of the play Romeo and Juliet that used different literary
devices in their dialogues;
4. Appreciate the relevance and importance of understanding the literary devices for
deeper meaning of the famous play.

III. PROCEDURE:

A. Preliminary Activities:
1. Opening Prayer
2. Checking of attendance
3. Collecting of assignment
4. Review of the previous lesson
B. Motivation

Scrambled Ideas!

The class will be divided into two. Each group will receive a box of
scrambled letters. They will assemble these words in the board. The fastest
group to assemble the letters will be the winner.

C. Presentation of the Lesson

The teacher will explain the flow of the lesson for the day by stating the
objectives. A short video clip of the trailer of the play “Romeo+Juliet” will be
shown to the students.

D. Lesson Proper

1. The teacher will explain literary devices and the literary devices
used in the play namely; Simile, Metaphor, Oxymoron and
Foreshadowing.
2. To gain more understanding, the teacher will provide more
examples of the lesson through video lessons.
3. An exercise tasks will be given to the students.

The class will be divided into four. The students will answer a
worksheet regarding the topic. Afterwards, they will present and defend
their answers in the class.

E. Generalization

Discuss the importance of literature in the portrayal of human


emotions and how it is best understood by the application of the literary
devices. These contexts will not only help in reviewing the literary devices
discussed in the lower grade level but as well as enhance your
understanding of it using the play of William Shakespeare.

IV. EVALUATION:
The students will answer their 10-item worksheet for 15 minutes.

V. AGREEMENT:

The students will create a short comic strip of the play Romeo and Juliet
that used different literary devices in their dialogues. The teacher will provide a
sample for reference.
