Learning Explain how mutations may cause changes in the structure and function of a Level 10
Competency protein. (S10LT- IIIe-38)
Explain the occurrence of evolution. (S10LT-IIIg-40) Quarter 3rd
Learning K-Determine the age of fossils. Week 7
Objectives S- Draw and place the fossils of organisms in its proper Era and Period. No.
A- Trace the occurrence and age of fossils.
V- Recognize the presence of extinct species. Day 2

the Plan
Engagement The class starts with a prayer, followed by the checking of attendance and lastly the
( Awareness) recapitulation.

Exploration 1. What is mutation?

(Activity) Ans. Mutation is any change in the DNA sequence.
2. What are the two types of mutation?
Ans. These are the gene mutation and chromosomal mutation.
3. How does gene mutation differ from chromosomal mutation?
Ans: Gene mutation is a permanent change in the DNA sequence that makes up a gene while
chromosomal mutation occurs at the chromosome level resulting in gene deletion, duplication or
rearrangement that may occur during the cell cycle and meiosis.

Explanation 1. What are some genetic disorders in humans?

( Analysis & Ans: Cri du chat, Down’s syndrome, Edward’s syndrome, Jacobsen syndrome, Klinefelter’s syndrome and Turn
Abstraction) 2. It is a genetic disorder due to extra copy of chromosome 21.
Ans. Down syndrome
3. A genetic disorder due to trisomy of chromosome 18.
Ans: Edward’s syndrome

Elaboration 1. Mutation is any change in the DNA sequence.

(Application) 2. Gene mutation is a permanent change in the DNA sequence that makes up a gene while
chromosomal mutation occurs at the chromosome level resulting in gene deletion, duplication or
