Q1. A complete sentence always contains a subject, verb, expresses a complete idea and


makes sense standing alone while a sentence fragment is a word, phrase, or dependent
clause that is punctuated as a sentence, but the subject, verb, or both may be missing.

Here, five groups are given and your task is to select the COMPLETE SENTENCE out of
the three in each group. (2*5 =10 Marks)

SOLUTION

Group 1:
A. When we finally heard that she made the dress herself.
B. Finding a parking space there is usually easy during the week. (Complete sentence)
C. Driving in the city during the evening rush hour.

Group 2:
A. To apply for a job at the new store in the mall.
B. Asking the interviewer how often he would have to work on weekends.
C. Shaking his new boss's hand, Tony knew he would like working there. (Complete sentence)

Group 3:
A. By the time Frances found out how expensive the wallpapering job would be.
B. After getting estimates from five contractors, she decided to do the work herself. (Complete
Sentence)
C. Before picking out an interesting wallpaper pattern that went well with her furniture.

Group 4:
A. Before planning another family get-together at the already crowded park.
B. The nineteen-year-old car looked out of place next to the new models. (Complete Sentence)
C. Which the salesman was surprised to find in such good shape.

Group 5:
A. While waiting for her neighbor to move the car that blocked the driveway.
B. To avoid hitting the other car, Michael had to back across the corner of the lawn. (Complete

Q2. Paragraph writing is the basic component of constructing long, descriptive essays. In
paragraph writing there must be a single topic sentence to be focused and arguments that
are supported by relevant examples. Keeping this in mind you need to construct a
paragraph on “Science is a Blessing or an Evil” of 150 to 200 words. Your paragraph must
have a topic sentence, arguments with supporting details and conclusion.

SOLUTION
Science is a Blessing or an Evil

Is Science a blessing or evil? That totally depends on who is using it and with which intentions.
There are many scientific invention that have become the part of our daily lives but some people
make bad use of it and portrays that science is evil.

Science indeed is a blessing if used in a proper manner. All the modern inventions of today are
the result of science and can be proved life changing for humans by good use. Scientific
inventions consists of cars, home appliances, mobile phone, air plane, robots, etc.

In the field of medicine, new medicines and methods to treat a certain disease are found.
Machines in hospitals are very useful and all these has increased chances of survival for humans.
While transportation has reduced distances between people and made easy to travel from one
place to other. For example, in the past it was very difficult to reach hospital in case of
emergency and the methods of treating patients was not that good. But today science has made
ways for us to survive in such situations.
