Assignment Final
Before
taking the course I only know some basic functions in Autocad. I don’t a lot of commands and shortcuts
in the software, so it really took me a lot of time whenever I practice using the software. In this course, I
have learned the different Autocad interface which I didn’t even care about before. Learning about the
different Autocad interfaces helped me to navigate and know some common functions. For example,
when saving your drawing, you can go and click in the Application Menu or the big red “A” button and
their various options would appear and one of it is saving. Another is the File Tab, which shows the files
that are currently open and helps you to easily go from one file to another just by clicking the tab. In this
course, we were also taught the proper assignments of our hands and finger on our keyboard and
mouse. For a right-handed student like me, my left hand should be on the keyboard, which will be the
one typing and entering commands. My thumb should be on the space bar for entering commands and
the rest of my fingers are on the letters to type the commands. My right hand should be in the mouse,
which will be used in zooming, panning, selecting and dragging across the screen. This lesson helped me
a lot in using the software more effectively because it made me do my tasks faster and easier. It made
me draw in a faster phase since I know what to do with my hands compared before where it consumes a
lot my time because I tend to type using both of my hands and going back to my mouse after. I have also
learned about the different hatches and where, how and when to use them in your drawing. I learned
about the command in enabling the “Hatch” function which is by clicking the “H” button. I also learned
how to input the proper scale depending on the size of your drawing and to manipulate its angle on my
desired direction. It is very helpful since some hatches have a specific default angle and learning how to
manipulate the angle helped me in my other Autocad drawings. Another lesson that really helped me a
lot is the lineweight assignment. We were taught how to assign lineweights on each color, in this case
we used seven colors. Every color corresponds to a specific lineweight ranging from 0.000 as the
thinnest and 0.4000 as the thickest. This helped me a lot because I was struggling before learning about
this. Every time I plot my drawing to convert into a pdf, the preview shows no change in its lineweights.
All the lines appear with the same thickness even though my lines have different lineweights in the
model view. When Architect Elcano thought us about this, I was really amazed and it felt like I have been
so stupid my whole life because I have been searching about this in the internet and found nothing. This
helped me a lot not just in CADD subject but also in our plates in Building Technology 3. Another
important lesson I have learned in this course is the importance of CADD in today’s construction and
architectural design industry. I have learned how CADD helps in the growing demand in these industries.
CADD helps aiding the industry a faster design and drafting process compared when done in a manual
drawing resulting to a faster production.
My best-liked topic would be the basic hand assignments to effectively use the Autocad software.
Learning about this topic helped in a great way even though it is just a basic lesson. It helped me
changed my habit in using Autocad, which will be very useful even in the future. It helped me do task
faster and save time for other tasks which is very helpful for architecture student like me with a lot
plates to be done. I believe that basic lessons like these is very important because it could affect your
learning in general. These basic lessons act as a building blocks or foundation of a skill that we are
developing. A weak basic skill could hinder a more effective learning in the future lessons so it is very
important that we know the basics.
