Stress – an emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension

- is the feeling one gets from a prolonged pent-up emotion. If the emotions you
experience are delectable and likeable – excitement, happiness, gladness, pleasure –
you usually feel free to let them show. They are not strangled. Therefore; positive
emotions do not usually cause stress. Negative emotions, on the other hand, are more
often held inside. There are hidden. You suffer quietly and you experienced stress.
Two kinds of Stress
1. Eustress – a positive form of stress having a beneficial effect on health, motivation,
performance, and emotional well-being (Merriam Webster)
- According to Tracy Boyd (2021), during positive stress, such as a promotion or vacation,
feel-good chemicals called ENDORPHINS means a chemical produced naturally by the nervous
system to cope with pain or stress are released.
- Kate Branch (2021), also explained that eustress, is caused by the likes of job
promotion, which comes with greater responsibility, more hours at the office, increased face time
with your boss, et cetera.
2. Distress – unhappiness or pain: suffering that affects the mind or body. It implies an
external and usually temporary cause of great physical or mental strain and stress.
Causes and Effects of Stress
1. Anxiety – a body’s natural response to stress, a feeling of scare or alarm about what’s to
come.
2. Pressure – the burden of physical or mental distress.
3. Misery – a state or feeling of great distress or discomfort of mind or body.
4. Strain – is a state of worry and tension caused by a hard situation.
5. Desperation – a feeling that you have when you are in such a not good situation that you
will do anything to change it.
6. Tension – a feeling that is produced in a situation when people are upset or worried and
do not trust each other.
7. Anger – a strong emotion that you feel when you think that someone has behave in an
unfair, harsh, or unacceptable way.
8. Panic – a strong feeling of upset or fear.
9. Dejection - a feeling of loneliness that you obtain.
You can’t abstain stress, but you can stop it by having exercise when you feel stress, have your
own goal for a day, week, or month. Take good care of your body and think positive always.
