Honor Pledge: Geng 138 - Remote Sensing Theory and Applications 2 Semester, A.Y. 2021-2022

The document provides instructions for a laboratory exercise on examining the resolutions of common remote sensing systems. Students are asked to identify and discuss the spatial, spectral, radiometric and temporal resolutions of several remote sensing datasets. They must submit a short lab report following the specified format and requirements, including an honor pledge, results section answering guide questions, lifelong learnings, and documentation of their meeting. The report requires analyzing resolution characteristics, comparing image qualities, and discussing practical applications of the different systems.

Instructions:

1. Use A-4 size bond paper. Leave 1-inch margin on all sides

2
2. Answer the guide questions
3. Report contents and format:
a. Page 1: Signed Honor Pledge
b. Page 2 onwards: Main report
c. Format/contents:
 Introduction: provides an overview about the exercise (3-4 sentences)
 Learning Outcomes
 Materials/Data
 Results (use the questions shown in Procedure section of this laboratory
manual as guide in your discussions)
 Lifelong Learnings
 Documentation

Procedure:

1. Explore the characteristics (spatial, spectral, radiometric, and temporal resolution) of

the given remote sensing image data (hint: some information are located in “.hdr” file
of each data set.)
2. (9) Tabulate the characteristics accordingly. You may use this table:

System Launch End of Spatial Radiometric Spectral Temporal

Date Service Res. (m) Res. (bit) Res. Res. (day)
(bands)

3. (6) Give practical applications of each remote sensing system. You may focus only
one particular band of each sensor/system. Explain in two sentences per RS system.

4. (5) Select an area of your choice on the image (either grayscale or rgb) and capture
the zoom window (at four-level zoom). Do this for each remote sensing system.
Compare (in 5-8 sentences) the images in terms of their quality related to spatial
resolution.

Lifelong Learnings (5):

(Write in one paragraph with 3-5 sentences the information, knowledge, or skills you learned
from this activity that are new and may have lifelong contribution to your personal life and
future endeavors.)

Documentation of your Meeting (5):

(Insert picture/s of your meeting/s)
