Computer Systems Servicing Hazards & Risks: Css Teacher
Q1: Week 2
Learning Objectives
You should be able to evaluate hazards and risk in the workplace to avoid accident
by answering the different activities given. Write your answers in your notebook.
2
Pre-test
Direction: Read each statement below carefully. Write T on the line, if you
think the statement is true and F, if it is false.
_____ 2. When working at night, turn off the lights to maximize the
resolution of the monitor.
_____ 3. Users spending more than five hours a day on keyboard duties
must avoid stretching break.
_____ 4. To assess the change in reflected glare from the screen, a user
should hold the book below the surface of the screen.
_____ 6. To achieve comfortable posture your knees should be bent and the
feet well rested when sitting in front of a computer.
_____ 7. Look for a mouse that fits your hand to prevent undue pressure on
the wrist and forearm muscles.
_____ 8. Set the eye parallel to the screen at a distance that permits you to
most easily focus on the screen.
_____ 10. Place the keyboard in a position that is very close to the chest of
the user.
Lesson Proper
You have learned in the previous module that a risk can be classified as
high or low depending on the effects of the existing hazard to anyone. Let’s
enumerate the steps or procedures on how to prevent the effects of hazard.
There are various health problems associated with the regular use of
computers, such as stress, eyestrain, and muscle pain of the wrists, neck,
and back.
3
Computer ergonomics is the practice of fitting the setup of the
computer to the task of the user to minimize the physical stress and
injuries.
Proper posture
-eyes level with text on the monitor
-hands and wrist straight/rest on the table
-shoulders down and arms relaxed at side
-elbows level with keyboard and mouse
-either the feet should touch the footrest of the chair or the floor
-Change posture from time to time to minimize fatigue.
Lighting fixtures
-To avoid getting other sources of bright light keep the monitor away from
windows.
-To assess the glare and reflection, hold the book above the surface of the
screen parallel to the eyes of the user.
- When working at night, do not turn off the lights to avoid eye strain due to
overly bright light source from the monitor.
Appropriate accessories
- Look for a mouse and keyboard that fits your hand to prevent undue
pressure on the wrist and forearm muscles.
-Use ergonomic chair if possible, to adjust the height of the chair to become
parallel to the work surface.
4
Activity 1
In the previous module you’ve learned how to identify the hazards and risk
in the workplace. This time you will evaluate the hazards to give appropriate
plan or action to avoid injury or any accident.
5
Activity 2: Evaluate the hazard!
Directions: Classify the hazards below and give a reason.
Frayed Wires Unarranged laboratory
chairs
Food and drink on table heavy objects on top of cabinets
A boy standing barefoot on wet floor Low ventilation
1. 1. 1.
2. 2. 2.
6
Directions: Identify the hazard below if it is high risk or low risk?
1. Placing laptops and personal computer’s screen near the window.
2. Using a computer for eight (8) hours without a break.
3. Uncovered computer system units in the laboratory.
4. Working alone in the office.
5. You have forgotten to blow the candle after using it.
6. Hanging objects in the computer laboratory.
7. Water bottles on the working tables in the laboratory.
8. Damaged electric outlets.
9. Frayed wires on the ceiling.
10. Unlabeled chemicals.
11. Assembling a computer unit without Personal Protective Equipment
(PPE).
12. Well-scrubbed concrete floor.
13. Overloaded electrical sockets
14. Bulky mouse
15. Bags and obstacles
Proper posture
-Good posture when working on a computer helps reduce unwanted pain
and crumps on muscles.
Lighting fixtures
-Proper placement of equipment (computer, laptop, gadgets, etc.) with
regards to the light source may help increase the efficiency of the users and
reduce eyestrain.
Time of Exposure and Work
-Static posture for a long period of time may cause muscular aches and
pains and therefore it is advised to have a periodic break.
Appropriate accessories
-Use equipment or accessories that fits your size to prevent muscular aches
and pains to happen.
7
ACTIVITY 4: EVALUATE THE HAZARDS AT HOME
Directions: Use the form below to evaluate the things in every corner in your
home then list down at least five (5) hazards and give a reason.
1. 1. 1.
2. 2. 2.
Post-test
Direction: Read each statement carefully. Write TRUE on the line, if you
think the statement is correct and FALSE, if it is not.
