GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Course Description:
A study of the characteristics of Criminal Law, the nature and classification of felonies, the
circumstances affecting criminal liability and the extent and extinction of criminal liabilities, as well
as the civil liability of the offender, the nature and manner of computation of penalties, complex
crimes, habitual delinquency, the application of the Indeterminate Sentence Law and the Probation
Law.
Grading:
Passing grade for the course is 75%. The final grade will be based on the following component
items and their respective weights: Graded Recitation – 40%; Midterm Examination – 30% and Final
Examination – 30%. Short quizzes and other requirements may be given in lieu of or in addition to
daily graded recitations; these will be considered part of the recitation.
Course Materials:
Primary course material is the Revised Penal Code and Special Penal Laws indicated in the
outline. You should have a book on the Codal Provisions of the Revised Penal Code and Special
Penal Laws and any of the following: Reyes, Luis B. The Revised Penal Code, Book One (Articles 1-
113) 2021 ed. or Boado, Leonor, Notes and Cases on the Revised Penal Code. Additional reading
materials include: Festin, Lito, Criminal Law Bar Reviewer and Campanilla, Mario, Special Penal
Laws, Rex Bookstore.
