EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
 Obtain vital signs before administering medications for patients with outside injection.
 Administer medications as written in the doctor’s order sheet. Call the attending
physicians if there is any clarification.
 Keeps the ER clean. Sterilize instruments and equipment used.
 Proper segregation of needles, syringe and ampoules as per DSMC policy and MOH
guidelines.
 Maintains continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions,
irregularities, and continuing needs by properly endorsing before and after shift.
 Always maintain proper endorsement before and after shifts for the E-cart, Isolation
Room, Dressing Room, medicines used etc.
 Continuously update and maintain all ER logbooks and checklists.
 Report to the Head nurse all significant incidents that happen in the department.
 As needed, assist other nurses before, during and after patient care.
 Work closely with doctors to keep patients and their family members updated on test
results or treatment recommendations.
 Responsible for maintaining care standards in the emergency room. Maintain contact with
laboratory personnel to report any initial lab findings back to the ER doctors.
 Make arrangements for patients that are deemed to need care requiring them to be
transferred to their home or to the hospital.
 React effectively in emergency scenarios, demonstrating sound decision-making that will
help save patients’ lives.
 Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols,
medication administrating and storage procedures.
 Perform other related-duties as assigned.

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Responds to instructions while monitoring communication equipment to maintain
contact with emergency medical dispatcher.
 Administration of Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and the Injured,
from the incident location to Definitive Care.
 Helps in maintaining vehicles and medical and communication equipment and
replenish first aid equipment and supplies.
 Determine the nature and extent of illness and injury to establish first aid procedures
to be followed or need for additional assistance, basing decisions and taking
considerations on statement of persons involved, examination on victim/s and
knowledge on emergency medical practice.
 Administer prescribed Emergency Care at site of emergency or in specially equipped
vehicle while en route to treatment facility, performing such activities as application
of splints, administration of oxygen or intravenous injections, perform bleeding
management from minor wounds to areas with exsanguination either with simple
bandages to tourniquet application, insertion of basic airway adjuncts and
administration of medical oxygen, performing of artificial resuscitation not only at the
Emergency location, during transit; furthermore, we even participate in the
continuation of care inside the Receiving Facility (e.g. ER).
 Perform Full Body Immobilization with the use of different devices such Long
Backboards, Scoop Stretchers and Vacuum Mattress.
 Communicate with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to
obtain instructions regarding further treatment and to arrange for reception of
victims at treatment facility.
 Assist receiving facilities or hospital admitting personnel to obtain and record
information related to victims’ vital signs, history of the injury or illness (MOI / NOI)
and other pertinent information.
 Assist in controlling crowds, protecting valuables, or performing other duties at scene
of the emergency.
 Conduct “Pre-Conference” to review tasks, assign them if needed and to make sure
that unit will be updated with situation reports within our jurisdiction. Conduct “Post
Conferences” / “Call Critique” every after a call.
 Participate in Disaster Response – and especially in Mass Casualty Incidents, perform
Triage, Treatment and Transport. Prioritize patients / victims according to their
injuries and categorize them accordingly, assist in extrication from site to the
treatment area and transport patients to definitive care for continuity of care.
 May report facts concerning accident or emergency to hospital personnel or law
enforcement officials.
