Tamil Typing Tools
A. Quick Installation Guide
Section 1 - For Windows 10 OS
(a) Click on Start menu or Windows key
(b) Click on Settings
(c) Click on Time and Language
(d) Click on Region and Language
(e) Click on Add a Language and select for Tamil and click on it.
(f) Select Tamil (India) or Tamil (Sri Lanka)
(g) Click Next and Click Install
(h) Click on Tamil (Sri Lanka) or Tamil (India) and select Options
(i) By default you will see Tamil 99
(j) If not, select “ +” to ‘add a keyboard’ and then select Tamil99
Now you are ready to use Tamil99 Keyboard.
Note: 1. You can switch between Tamil and English Keyboard by Clicking the ENG button in
the bottom right hand corner of the Task Bar.
2. If you want to type in Phonetic keyboard, follow the ekalappai installation guide in
Section 2 and select Phonetic keyboard in Step (h)
Section 2 - For Windows 9 OS (and below)
(a) Visit www.thamizha.org
(b) Download eKalappai version 3.0.4 and install
(c) Click on Start menu or Windows key.
(d) Click on eKalappai
(e) Now you are ready to use Tamil Keyboard
(f) Now you can see the “த” button in the bottom right of the Task Bar
(g) Click the “த” button and select Settings
(h) Select Tamil99 or Phonetic in the Keyboard option
Now you are ready to type in Tamil99 Keyboard or Phonetic keyboard depend on your
keyboard selection in Step (h) above.
Note: 1. To switch between Tamil and English languages, use F2 key.

Section 3 - For Mac OS
(a) Click on Settings
(b) Click on Keyboard
(c) Click on Input Sources
(d) Click on “+ “ and select Tamil
(e) Click on Tamil Standard (for Tamil 99 keyboard) or select Tamil Anjal (for
Phonetic Keyboard)
Now you are ready to type in Tamil99 Keyboard or Phonetic Keyboard depend on your
keyboard selection in Step (e) above.
Note: 1. Change the flag in the Taskbar to change the language from English to Tamil
or vice versa.
