Psalm 1: Let There Be Light

We will see a great connection between the light of hwhy, given on the first day of creation, and the light of the Torah which shines forth into the heart of man. Central to this light is the light of the Seventh Daythe Day set apart by hwhy for man to rest in Him. Of the great benefits, blessings, and deliverance to be found in observing the Shabbat, hwhy declared through the prophet Isaiah: For thus says the Sovereign hwhy, the Set Apart One of Yisrael, In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength. Isaiah 30:15 Without question, we are saved by the light and truth of hwhy.1 The Shabbat not only embodies this light, it is only as we walk in the light of hwhy given on Shabbat that our hearts are illumined by the light of His special Presence placed within the Seventh Day; it is the light of His Presence which enables us to see and to understand the Torah, along with every other issue important for every day living: For with You is the fountain of life: in Your light we shall see light. Psalm 36:9 As we are considering the very first psalm, in this study we will learn of amazing connections between the letter aleph, the number 1000 (aleph), and the light of hwhy. Aleph (a) is not only the first letter in the Aleph-Beit, it also has a mispar value equal to 1; the very word, aleph, means one thousand in the Hebrew language; and the Hebrew word for light (rwa) begins with the letter aleph as well. But these are only preliminary, foundational connections: we will soon see they lead to even greater number associations which are not only inspired, but which are exceedingly more profound. Before continuing, we present Psalm One. Tehillim/Psalms 1 1 How blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the lawless, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scorners! 2 But his delight is in the Torah of hwhy and in His Torah he meditates by day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by streams of water: that gives its fruit in its season, and his leaf shall not wither and whatsoever he does he prospers.2 4 The lawless are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore, the lawless will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For hwhy knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the lawless will perish.

Numbers 6:22-27, Psalm 27:1, 43:3, 44:3 We believe this psalm refers to the Scriptures which indicated hwhy prospered all that Yoseph/Joseph set his hands to do. See Genesis 39:2-3, 23. Yet Yoseph learned of meditation from his fathers (who also prospered). Genesis 24:63

We have seen in our introductory articles3 how the numbering of the Psalms is inspired and how there are five, distinct books within Tehillim, and each of these corresponds, sequentially, to the five books of the Torah. Psalm 1 being the first entry in the Genesis Book of Tehillim, we see a great, telling connection between Genesis 1 and Psalm 1: in the beginning, the first words recorded as having been spoken by Elohim are, Let there be light.4 Corresponding with this great outburst of lightthe life-force which broke forth in the first act of creationthe Spirit of hwhy opens Psalm 1, and so, the entire Psalter, pronouncing yet again, Let there be light! Only now, this light is seen to be the light of the Torah: How blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the lawless, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scorners. But his delight is in the Torah of hwhy and in His Torah he meditates by day and night. Psalm 1:1-25 Corresponding to the light which began creation (and which figuratively breaks forth upon all Five Books of the Torah), Psalm 1the opening psalm of Sepher a (the Genesis Book 6)pronounces once again: Let there be light, the light of the Torah,7 the light which lights mankind and exposes the darkness,8 and the light which holds the potential for an abundant life.9 And, indeed, the entire Psalter is easily proven to be meditations on the Torah. Further, the entire Book of Psalms shows the Torah to be nothing less than the light which emanates from hwhy Himself.10 Not surprisingly, when haMashiach (the Messiah) came as the Word of hwhy in the flesh,11 He came as the Living Torah. Consequently, He was the light which lights every man coming into the world.12 And so, eswhy rightly called Himself the light of the world.13 And all this corresponds with the fact that eswhy and all His apostles taught Messianic, New Covenant believers to walk in the light of the Torah.14 Summarily, Psalm 1 shows us what it truly means to walk in the light. It further provides us with promises and warnings regarding those who walk in the light and those who do not.

Under HaMisparim LaDebarim, see the following, two articles: Prologue to the Series, and the Numbering of the Psalms is Inspired. 4 Braysheet/Genesis 1:3 5 Psalm 19 further establishes the light of the Torah and the light of creation are inseparably linked. 6 Psalms 1 41 7 Psalm 119:105, Proverbs 6:23, Isaiah 2:1-5 8 Psalm 1:1, Psalm 119:130, John 1:9, Romans 6:4, 8:1,4, 12:2, 13:3, Galatians 5:16, 25, Ephesians 2:10, 4:1,17, 5:2,8,15, Colossians 1:10, 1Thessalonians 2:12, 4:1, 1John1:7, 2:6, 2John1:7, 3John 1:4 Many of these latter texts show the walk referred to by Shaul and Yochanan/John is none other than the walk referred to by the writer of Psalm 1! This was the walk of Enoch of whom it was written, And Enoch walked with Elohim Genesis 5:24 And this was the faith walk of Abraham, the father of the faithful, of whom it was written, Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge: My commandments, My statutes, and My laws. Genesis 26:5 9 Psalm 1:3, John 10:10, 2Peter 1:3 10 Psalm 27:1, 36:9, 43:3, 89:15-17, 104:1-2, 118:27, 119:105, 130 11 John 1:1-3,14 12 John 1:9 13 John 8:12, 9:5 14 John 12:36, 15:10, 17:14,17, Matthew 5:17-20, Romans 2:13, 3:31, 1John 5:2-3, Revelation 12:17, 14:12, 22:14

The Number Connections Between the Light of hwhy and the Light of Shabbat We will now see great evidence the light of hwhy given on the first day of creation culminated in the light which He has given to all mankind through His Presence on the Seventh Day. And He said Elohim, Let there be light (rwa) Genesis 1:3. The misparim for light is 207:

207 = (200) r + (6) w + (1) a = rwa = ohr = light Amazingly, while the misparim for light is 207, the misparim for Shabbat is 702:

702 = (400) t + (2) b + (300) s = tbs = Shabbat (the Seventh Day) Psalm 1 is a grand introduction to the light which emanates from the Torah. The light of hwhy given to all mankind on the first day of creation15 culminated in the light of hwhy given to all mankind 16 through His Presence on the Seventh Day, the Shabbat. We immediately notice 702, the misparim for Shabbat, is the reverse of 207, the misparim for light. This is far from coincidence: it is an inspired result. Walking in the light of the Shabbat, we receive the light of the wisdom that is from above.17 The special blessing of the Most Highs Presence within the Seventh Day makes it a day in which hwhy especially reveals the truth of His Torah.18 Tehillim One enjoins meditation and study in the Torah every day; it speaks of the man who meditates in the Word of hwhy by day and night as he/she continually seeks the Face of Elohim. This being the case, Psalm 1 adds a great deal more to our understanding of the mitzvah/commandment of hwhy: Remember the Shabbat Day to keep it set apart.19 If we are to continually meditate in the Torah throughout the six days of the week, how much more should this meditation be fostered and heightened on the Seventh Daythe Day upon which the light of Creation culminates in the Light of Shabbat? Of Light and Vision Amazingly, not only does the word see (har) contain two of the three letters in light (rwa), its misparim value winds up being just one less:

206 = (5) h + (1) a + (200) r = har = ro-eh = see 207 = (200) r + (6) w + (1) a = rwa = ohr = light We have all heard the expression, I saw the light. The truth is: Apart from light we cannot see! The misparim connection seen above shows us just how inspired is this already obvious relationship: hwhy made the seeing eye,20 but the eye functions with vision only in the presence of light.

(and seen increasingly on each of the subsequent six days) Mark 2:27, John 1:9, Romans 1:19-20 17 James 3:17 18 For many details and for many other Scriptures regarding the truth of this statement, see the article, You Lift Up the Head. http://www.scribd.com/doc/23343671/You-Lift-Up-the-Head-of-All-the-Congregation 19 Exodus 20:8 20 Proverbs 20:12

The Light of One, the Light of One Thousand The misparim for the letter, aleph, is one:

(1) a = The First Letter of the Hebrew Aleph-Beit = Aleph The misparim for the word, aleph, is one hundred eleven:

111 = (80) P + (30) l + (1) a = Pla = The Hebrew Word Equivalent to 1000 = Aleph It is interesting to note the misparim for the word aleph is one hundred eleven, and 111 is a number composed of three ones, or figuratively, three alephs! The Light of the Name and the Speed of Light There is a great connection between the light of 1000 and the light of the Name; and this connection actually yields the speed of light. Recall the Qadosh Name of hwhy contains the letters, yohd, he, waw, and he. Just below, we show each letter and its mispar value; out to the side of each letter, we then show each of these values squared; and underneath it all, the sum of these squared values is shown:

y = 10, 102 = 100 h = 5, 52 = 25 w = 6, 62 = 36 2 25 h = 5, 5 = ==================== ttl: 26 186 Now, 186 x 1000 (aleph) = 186,000, and 186,000 miles/second equals the speed of light! While the connection is most amazing, it is also not surprising. And, of course, it reminds us of so many times when the inspired writers of Scripture declared hwhy is light: This, then, is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare to you: that Elohim is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. 1John 1:5 In still another place, we read hwhy dwells in light inapproachable: Who only has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light; Whom no man has seen, nor is able to see; to Whom be honor and age-abiding might, amein. 1Timothy 6:16 Bless hwhy, O my soul! hwhy my Elohim, You are very great; You are clothed with majesty and splendor: 2 covering Yourself with light as with a garment Psalm 104:1-2

Summary The Messiah teaches those who follow Him will not walk in darkness, but they will have the light of life.21 Apart from the lightwhether that light is physical or spiritualwe simply cannot live. eswhy is the Living Word, the Living Torah, and He invites us to look to Him and to His Example of upholding the immutable, age-abiding Torah of the Father.22 We pray this meditation, as well as this entire series of articles, will contribute to each of our readers progressing in the faith and walking in more of His great light. t
