Dpaint Tutorial (beating logo)

The following logo should be an easy one:

1. First switch on the grid (G) and paint with (v) a smal triangle.

2. Get this triangle as a brush and paint the logo of your choice
(v) in one color, till it looks like the logo above.

Try to make this first version of your logo as good as possible,

because sometimes you can make a superb logo with easy designs
with a cool shape.A good example is the graphic artist "Angle Dawn"
.Don't know who this fuckin' cool guy is, but he is a realy good
artist(just take a look at Possessed Intro, Jumplogo, Tristar, usw..)

To make this Beating Bytes logo you need 2 backgrounds:

1. For the first background get a colorgradation as brush and copy

it over the old one on the screen. Then get this whole thing and
rotate it about 45%. Then it looks like example 1.
2. Now paint a brush like example 2 (or just rip it if you want).
3. Paint with this a wave (like in example 3).
4. Now change the middle of this wave with smooth (F8).
5. Then lay the grid (example 5) with shade (F5) on this brush
and you get Brush 6.

The backrounds must certainly be as big as the logo itself,

and not so small as shown in the expamples on this screen ...

Now the last changes to get the final:

1. Lay the one-colour-logo on the blue background (change
backgroundcolour!)
2. Get this logo again as brush, pick the black colour
(colour 1) and press (o) to get a black frame around
the logo.
3. Then paint a "lighsourced" frame around it.
4. Now again a black one (again "o").
5. After this choose one of the red colours and press 3 times

Dpaint Tutorial (beating logo)

"o". Then you have a big red frame.

6. Pick now this red colour as backgroundcolour (right
Mousebutton) and lay this on the red background. Now get the
whole thing and pick the light red colour and press "o". Get
one the next darker red color and press again "o". Do this 4
times, then it will get real dark..

And now you have made it I hope... lets try the next logo now...

Dpaint Tutorial (Creeps Logo)

1. Press "g" for grid (if you have a bigger logo: change grid size!)

2. Paint a triangle (jep, the same as in beating bytes logo) and get
it as Brush.

3. Get this triangle and paint a logo with it with the linefunction
(v).

4. Now get the whole logo and press shift "o".

5. Lay this logo on the old one on the screen and press right
mousebutton.

Ok... now you have the same simple logo like this on the screen.

1. Now paint a frame around the logo (8 pixel, use the grid "g")
2. Then paint lines to split parts out of the logos for the
lightsourced fills.
3. Get one of the fillmodes and press right button on the fill
icon. In this menu choose "from brush" and "warp" then go on
ok and fill it lightsourced into the frame of your logo.
Make this with the other two fillmodes, too.

To get the best results of this, try to rotate the brushes

sometimes and try which is looking best.

Dpaint Tutorial (Cronos Logo)

Try this when you wan't an easy one!

- Paint again a triangle brush and paint with it a simple logo

(Example)

- Then try to paint example 2 (infos in Beating logo)

- Then get a small brush, press "F4" and smear the graphic in the
centerline.

- Now get it again and edit it with the function "smooth"(F8).

- Now lay the 2 color version of your logo on the first

background.

- But we need an other backgound for the frame: paint some

mad lines on the screen (like example 2).
- Get it as brush and pick on the next darker colour on your
palette and press "o". Then pick again the next darker colour
and press "o".continue this till you have no darker color left
(example 3)
- On this finished back lay a one pixel frame of your logo.
- Now you have example 5.

Now paint a half star and set it on some light spaces around
the logo.

Dpaint Tutorial (Effects)

With this graficcoppers you can fill the space on your screen easy.
To create them just paint small patterns and fix them to a big bar.

You can make whole games with this simple grafix or just cool
frames for big pictures.

Feel free to rip this ones from this screen

Here you see an example for using this "coppergrafix" for an intro.

First paint with the "coppergrafix" (go one Page back) a frame.
Then fill in this box a fillmode (look at logospecials) and set a
two-colour-logo with shade (F5). Than lay this on one of the
"coppergrafix" Pipe and paint the simple effects in front of this
picture.

Yes.. I know this are now real coppers, but it is a nice name for
this Effect...

Dpaint Tutorial (Endless Piracy Logo)

And now something for the real hard guys out there, a logo which
you may know from other groups. It will take a bit longer, but
thats worth.Ok, lets go ahead:

1. Draw such a logo in two colours (pixel it, or use instructions

from Creeps-logo) and tilt it (with the perspective shown). But
it should have, if possible, round corners. When it is done in
one colour, the hardest part of the logo is made (Yeah).
2. Now take this one as brush and pull it with the line function
and with a darker colour (F2) up.
3. Then lay the lighter one on the darker one ... (CHEERS)

So, I hope you have it now like the one above. Let's go to the
next page.

Ok:

1. Now fill into the dark plains the left pattern (with the option
Fillmenu "Brush")

2. When this doesn't look nice, paint over the plains.

3. Now the right mousebutton on the light colour (with which you
drawn the one coloured-logo) , press, and take the logo as
brush (B).

1. Now set the colour-flow so, that it looks like the one in
example #1.In the filloption set the colour-flow as hard as
possible (Remark: In Dpaint IV this option is very difficult
to use)

2. The Logo should be the whole screen wide, in order to get the
best effect. Take the logo and blend it from the left to the

Dpaint Tutorial (Endless Piracy Logo)

right (F6) and pull the line options over it. Then you get
example #2

1. Now take the logo with a white backround. That means the white
plains are transparent!
2. We lay this plain on the backround, which we have drawn 2 pages
before
3. Lighten up the lower lines real hard and if you want you can
light or dark up some corners.

What shall I say...Another Logo is finished. With more effects

(pics in backround, other fillmodes) you get an even better result
(put who likes to pixel?!)

http://student.fho-emden.de/~cider/endless.htm (2 de 2) [28/07/1999 12:47:14]

Dpaint Tutorial (Creeps Logo)

1. Pick the fill-icon and press right mousebutton.

2. In this menu switch the dither on maximum (Dpaint 3!).

3. Now fill a smal box (like in example 1).

4. Get this as a brush and press F6 (blend).

5. Go with this brush diagonal over the original.

6. Get the clean part out of the box.

7. Mirror it (x) and lay it direct against the original

(example 3).

8. Now get the first 6 lines from the original as a brush.

9. Then press F5 (shade) and make the first 6 lines two
times lighter.Make the same with the left border and then
nearly the same only darker and at right and down border.
10.to get a sharp looking plate get a one-pixel-line and
shade it where you made it darker lighter and where you made
it lighter darker.
11.Then correct the smal bugs in the corners of the frames
(example 6).

Now... Yes now you are ready. When you insert a simple logo in
the center with shade then it is perfect for a demo or anything
else....

Dpaint Tutorial (Rattle Copy)

Rattlecopy was made like this:

1. I made a Backround with the shadeerror (small Palette) and a
small brush.
2. On this I laid the already made boxes and first made them brighter,
and then darker.
3. In order to get the small and important boxes emphasized, I
used the F7 - option.
4. In the not-changed textfields I used a fillmode and I overworked
some of the text.
Jo, That was all. It was not very difficult, but the best effect
are the simple ones. Let's go to the next effect. A pity is, that
a wrong version of Rattlecopy 4.0 with the wrong palette was spreaded,
but version 4.01 is with this palette (Thanks to Rattlehead for
updating this).

Dpaint Tutorial (Endless Piracy Logo)

- Now some more allusions how to insert fillmods in real graphics

(pics): First I drawed an onecolored "Vectorversion" of the robot.
After that I filled the 3 different fillmodes (depending in light
source). At small plains use small cuttings from the fillmode.
- For the other picture (castle) I had to unfortunatly reduce the
size and the colours, thats why you can't perceive the fillmodes
correctly, but the picture was drawn in the same way like the
cellar of "Das Erbe": The plains must be filled out with very big
fillmodes, and after that you have to lay the grid for the bricks
on the preview.I want to be honest, it would take too long to
explain it in all the details (when I drawed a GFX, it is sometimes
impossible for me, to do the same effect again, because I tried for
too many hours... hehehe)

http://student.fho-emden.de/~cider/robot.htm [28/07/1999 12:47:18]

Dpaint Tutorial (Shade)

Backrounds are the bases for tollgraphics (look side XX), details
and platforms could let the pic looking more interresting and
complex. In this example the white brushes over the cuts were used
as base. Now the instructions for the GFX on this page:

1. You may not use colour-range. The already active ones

have to be deleted (So Dpaint can also shade brighter with
the backround colour).
2. Draw an one-coloured brush and lay it with shade (F5) on
the background. After some time it gets brighter (depending on how
often you shade on this place.
3. If you want something like the effect in pic #3, then you
should start in the middle, and then go to the outside, quite fast.

This effect can be used on a sunset:

1. Additionaly shade the backround on the bottom brighter and on the

top darker
2. After that shade the Sunbeam brighter into the graphic.

That's all. With this effect drawn graphic it looks like a

naturalistic chaos, without pixeling for several hours.

Single clouds should be drawn extra (look one page back)

With this graphic the colourcyclingefects are good to make.

http://student.fho-emden.de/~cider/shade.htm [28/07/1999 12:47:20]

Dpaint Tutorial (Special)

On this page I wan't to show you some hints, about aditional cool
logo effects:

1.In example 1 you can see, how a brighter 1 pixel frame could
look like Just take the whole logo, press "F2" and drop it and
take this one again. After that, you press "Shift-O" and lay it
on the old 2-colour version on the screen. Now take this 1-pixel
frame and lay it with shade "F2" over the original
16-colour-version.
2. It looks better, when you leave a 1-pixel black frame space
between the original logo and the multi-colour frame. (example 2)
3. To get the real "Magic-touch" you can add some Stars or other
lightreflexions ..(example 3+4)
4. A good effect is, to shade lines on the inner fillmode.

- The fillmodes on this screen are the best I made in the past, but
when you designed your own and you think that yours are better or
in an totally different style, please send them to me.

- Each of these fillmodes makes the logodesign completly different.

You get the best results when you use 32 colors (2 ranges x 16 colors)
or Med-res.

- You can paint complete objects and pictures (look at the robot pic on
this disk).

http://student.fho-emden.de/~cider/special.htm [28/07/1999 12:47:22]

Dpaint Tutorial (Texte)

Now something short and easy: A font with lightreflexes!

1. Design a Font with Dpaint or just load an already made one.

2. Then you take the letters as brush and press F8 (Smooth) and
lay the brush over itself. Now the brush is rounded off and
should look like example #2.
3. Now take the brush #1 and lay it on itself again, but one
pixeled moved to the right, and press the rightmousebutton.
Now it should look like example #3
4. With the rest do the same like in 3 , but this time not one
pixel right now one pixel down. (example #4)
5. Now lay example #4 over example #2 that it look like example #5
Cheap trick but it works. To pump up the whole thing, use
"o" (outline) or continue working with the Shade-effect (side 04).

http://student.fho-emden.de/~cider/texts.htm [28/07/1999 12:47:23]

Dpaint Tutorial (Texte)

And now the instructions for the titlepic

1. Draw the logo in two colours (example #1)

2. Set the palette on a 16-colour-blend, but don't set any ranges.
(important)
Take the logo and shade it (F5). Then go on the line option and
pull the logo with the right mousebutton from the bottom left
to the top right.(look at example #2)
3. Take the logo (exm. #2) lay it on the bottom left and make it
brighter with shade (F5)... example #3
4. After that pull it from top right down (like in example 2)
5. Now put the logo to the top right corner. Thats it!

http://student.fho-emden.de/~cider/titlegfx.htm [28/07/1999 12:47:24]

Dpaint Tutorial

- This logo is the one of the best I want to explain on this disk.
It is the same effect like in the title Picture, but this will
show the great effectivity of this design.

- And again paint with the linefunktion (v) a logo of your choice.

- Now let us go to the next screen......

For the ones seeing only the Line-logo just power up your
brightness.

- Take the linelogo as brush and shade it (F5)

(important: don't set ranges)

- Press "g" to paint the lines more exactly

- Now activate the linefunktion (v) and pull a diagonal

line from the bottom left to the right top.

- Now brighten up the ends with "shade" and emphasize the

two-colour-design with F7.

Remark: Only works with DPaint III
