I. INTRODUCTION
1. Background
1.1 The development of the Internet
The development of the Internet has greatly influenced the life of the whole society
in recent years. In the era known as "The World is Flat" in the opinion of Thomas L.
Friedman, author of the book “World is flat”, no one can deny the benefits of the
Internet. Besides the many utilities that it brings to users such as: fast information, a
rich volume of information that is constantly updated, there are many entertainment
utilities ... there is also a rather important aspect, which is drastically changing the
form of communication between individuals, groups, and countries, that is the
ability to connect. Thus, the Internet has become a popular medium with diverse
features that allow users to connect, share and receive information quickly and
efficiently.
1.2 Internet develops rapidly in Vietnam
(Union) Vietnam is in the top five countries with the fastest Internet growth in the
world. The report cites data from the Vietnam Internet Center (VNNIC), which
shows that our country is proud to have an Internet penetration rate of 35.6% as of
November 2012. The number of Internet users in our country has increased
significantly in the past 10 years, from 2.1 million in 2003 to 31.3 million at the end
of 2012. According to a report from WeAresocial, as of March 2015 in Vietnam
there are up to 31.3 million people. 41 million Internet users (equivalent to 45% of
the population)
2. Rationale
In many different target groups, students are one of the groups that have the most
demand for using Internet and that also makes their activities (study, family
relationships, friends’ relationships, etc.). That poses a requirement to clarify these
influences to identify and interpret the positive and negative influences that the
Internet brings to students' lives today. Moreover, the study of its influence on
students can help suggest valuable recommendations in supporting the education
and training of students and youth in general in the era of the industrial revolution
4.0 now.
3. Research objective
- Description of students' Internet use status (section purpose of use, duration of use,
time of use, frequency of use, means of access, etc.)
- Analyze the impact of using social networks Internet to student learning.
- Draw some suggestions and recommendations to help promote the images positive
effects, limiting the negative effects of use Internet social network to study and
student life.
4. Research question
In a day, how much time do students spend on the Internet?
What purposes do students use the Internet for?
Do students feel that using the internet is necessary for them every day?
According to students, does Internet use affect learning?
What measures do students take to use the Internet effectively?
5. Research methods
- In this study, an online survey will be applied to collect data, a questionnaire will be
distributed to all students of the Institute of Accounting - Auditing, National Economics
University. Statistics will be collected from at least 50% of students.
6. Literature review
Asdaque et al. (2010) states that the Internet is a useful mechanism for turning
today's world into a global village. The Internet has a great impact on students' lives and
studies. Internet use affects students' academic performance and social life. Students'
academic performance is mostly influenced by time spent on the Internet. In this study,
academic achievement was corroborated by the students' GPA. Research shows that if
students’ study hard more than the purpose of using the Internet, their GPA results are
very good and vice versa. Excessive use of the Internet reduces students' concentration
and social activities.
Talooki, Ataee, Gorji & Aghaei (2017) state that Internet use has an impact on all
aspects of student life. The Internet helps students communicate with others, gather
research information, understand the world, etc. At the same time, using the internet too
much has a negative effect on student life, it wastes time, doesn't want to interact with
people and affects physical health.
Saha & Guha (2019) also argue that the use of the Internet and social media both
have positive and negative effects on students' social life. The Internet is used by students
for regular communication and news updates. However, using the Internet too much
causes boredom among students. This study concludes that the use of the Internet and
social media largely contributes to healthy living and enriching learning.
II. MAJOR FINDINGS
The research team conducted a survey with 50% of students from the
Institute of Accounting and Control tpans studying at the National
Economics University. To assess the extent and purpose of students' Internet
use.
1. Technology devices used by students.
- The survey shows that the percentage of students using mobile phones is 36%
(accounting for the largest percentage) followed by the percentage of students using
personal computers is 33% (accounting for the second largest rate) and The remaining
25% is other technology devices. Mobile phones and personal computers account for
a high percentage because they have enough functions to serve students' needs in
learning and are convenient to bring, so they are very popular. Other technology
devices such as tablets, smart watches, and smart TVs account for a low percentage
because they are not functional enough to serve students and are not convenient to
carry, so they are rarely used by students.

2. Survey students' technology devices are connected to the Internet or
not.
- The survey showed that 92% of technology devices have been connected to the
internet, only 8% of the devices are not connected to the internet. The survey results

accounting for nearly half a percent (46%). This is followed by 22% of people who
use the internet more than 7 hours a day. Only 18% of people use the network for 3-4
hours. And the lowest level is that people use 1-2 hours (accounting for 14%)
although it is the best time frame to use social networks, people seem to be too
dependent on it, making the percentage of people The number of people using social

5. Advantages that the internet brings to students.
- Through the survey, the benefits of the internet are approximately the same, not too
much different. The survey results show that the internet provides a lot of benefits for
people such as finding information quickly and accurately (accounting for 22%)

6. Along with the advantages are the disadvantages that the Internet
brings.
- The survey results can show that the internet has advantages but also has
disadvantages such as using the internet a lot is harmful to health (accounting for the
highest rate of 35%) and reducing direct human-to-human interaction (accounting for
29%). %), the internet also wastes time for users (accounting for 22%). Through the
survey, we found that using the internet is harmful to health with the highest
percentage because it can affect the nerves and eyes of people and the lowest
percentage is poor internet service because now Technology has thrived with less

III. CONCLUSION
Today, with the development of the internet, a large part of the population in general and
students can easily access a wealth of useful information through search engines and
websites. They spend most of their day on the Internet. And gradually the Internet
becomes an indispensable part of everyone's life
It can be said that the Internet has become an indispensable learning tool for students.
The Internet is used to serve learning, entertainment, and is also a friend to help us
complete work more easily.
According to the survey, students feel the Internet is essential to them every day. It is a
tool to find information, a tool to help us understand more about life and about things that
we do not know.
The survey showed that, the Internet has brought great benefits for many people, but at
the same time, is also a concern due to its harmful effects. Excessive Internet use can lead
to impacts on students' health, education, and social interactions.
Students believe that using the internet is responsible, only acquiring accurate
information. Useful and civilized language are both measures to use the Internet
effectively.
Grateful for:
Thank you to teacher Dinh Thi Phuong Thao for helping us complete the
study. Thank you for taking the time to comment and give suggestions so that
we can complete the study in the best way. Thank you to the team members
