Castle Ravenloft Rules Summary

Objective: Explore crypts beneath castle and meet scenario objective

Setup:
• Shuffle Decks (Monster, Encounter, Treasure)
• Select Scenario
• Select Hero Card, Figure, and Power Cards
• Draw 1 Treasure card for each player (layout face up)
• Select 2 Healing Surges
• Set out Start Tile
• Setup Dungeon stack per Scenario

Player Turn (Clockwise after Player 1):


• Hero Phase
o If you have 0 HP, use 1 healing surge & discard it. If no surges, Heroes lose.
o Select Action (Move / Move, Attack / Move, Move / Attack)
• Exploration Phase
o If Hero at edge of tile, draw new tile
 Place tile so arrow points toward edge exploring from
 Draw monster and place on skulls on new tile
 If you (not another player) already have that monster, draw new one
• Villain Phase
o If you didn’t place a tile or placed one with a black arrow, draw and play Encounter
 May spend 5 Experience to Discard an Encounter card
 Environmental cards stay in play. Discard existing if new one drawn
 Traps place token on tile. If trap already on tile, discard and draw new Encounter
 Heroes on tile with trap may attempt to disable it
o Activate each Villain in play once
o Activate Each Monster / Trap in order drawn
 Follow Tactics script
 If multiple copies of Monster in play, activate ALL copies
• Action Notes
o Movement
 Number of spaces = Speed
 Heroes can move diagonally
 Monsters move via Tiles and cannot move diagonally
 Cannot move through walls / monsters
 Can move through Hero but not stop on Hero
 Follow Slowed / Immobilized markers as needed
o Attacks
 Cannot target monsters through walls or across diagonal tiles
 Select Power, roll and apply bonus, if result is target AC or better then hit
 If natural 20 rolled, may spend 5 EXP to level up hero and choose new Daily Power
 If hit, apply damage. If damage reduces monster to 0 HP then monster removed
 If monster removed
• Draw 1 Treasure (regardless of # of monsters defeated)
• If Treasure is an item, decide which character gets it. Otherwise, follow
instructions
• Place monster card in Experience Pile
 If Hero reduced to 0 HP, leave in play and lay on side
• Monsters ignore 0 HP heroes and 0 HP heroes may not act
• If healed later, stand up
